    My Husband Fences Épée

Hello, all. I'm a 26-year-old new mom. My husband has fenced épée on and off for about ten years or so, and I've watched him on and off for the last several. I've been very interested in the sport from the time of my first introduction, but I have a sad history of getting into things and, after too short a time, letting them slide. Not wanting to have barely-used fencing gear sitting around the house making me feel guilty, I declined to get involved. Recently, though, I decided that I've been excited about this fencing business long enough that it's probably not some passing fancy. I accompanied my husband to his new club (Fishkill Fencers), where I got to try things out. I loved it. Now, of course, I'm kicking myself for not doing this years ago. My mask has been ordered, and we're going to go try on jackets on Monday! I'm fairly giddy.

Husband just walked by: "Ooh, you're posting?"
    "Yeah, I'm introducing myself."
"What are you saying? 'I'm so excited! I'm gonna get a booby protector!!'?"
    "Yeah, something like that."

That sums it up pretty well, I think.

Welcome to fencing and to the Forum. You've picked a good place to start fencing; Hudson Berkshire (and Western NY right next door) has been a lot of fun for me to fence in. There are a fair number of clubs and competitions, and the people are generally great. Hope you stick with it!

Yaaaay! Welcome to the sport. I followed my daughter into it and have never regretted it.

Thanks, everyone! I've been reading through some of the boards, and I'm impressed by this community. It shouldn't surprise me; you are a bunch of fencers, after all.
