| If you're going for a shot to someone's arm, f'pete's sake, angle the blade so it intersects the target arm....if you cut parallel to the arm, you'll miss.
Also....no "Hasaaaaaan CHOP!" actions.....a shot to the head is ideally a punching action to the chin....the blade will follow...not a swing from the shoulders. (miss head, hit collarbone...ouch) |

| Actually, no sabre action should resemble a punch in any way. There is a smooth extension of the arm, and the actual cut is made with the fingers.
My words of wisdom: If your feet fail you, your hand won't save you.

| Start small. Those who make huge honking strides right off the on-guard line will get hit in preparation and will deserve it.
Cut correctly instead of trying to reach your opponent. If you overlunge, you will be stuck and you will get hit. If you execute correctly, even if you miss you are still alive to make the next action.

| Relax the muscles you aren't using. A lunge gets it's power from the legs, not the shoulders. |

| Keep your feet under you. Losing your balance is a sure way to get hit. |

For my $.02, have fun. This is a competitive sport, yes, but for the love of gods smile once in a while - enjoy yourself. I may lose, but the only times I'm upset when I lose is when I didn't enjoy my last bout.

| stay low and fluid (aka small footwork in chains).
I hear that all the time, but I still don't know what that means. (haha.)

| I don't smile when Im competing. I am having fun. If I fence about with an opponent who I think is equal in skill to me, or I fence well with someone is better than me, I don't get upset when I lose. I DONT have fun when I lose, but if it was a good bout it doesnt bother me. Otherwise, I find it infuriating.
