| Best/most memorable team match in history? Any weapon, any level of competition....
For men's epee, i'd say the gold medal bout in Atlanta where Italy beat Russia by two touches. The Italian team was stacked beyond belief (forgive me the spelling of names) Sandro Kuomo, Angelo Mazzone, Mauricio Randazzio. Russia looked alright as well: Pavel Kolobkov, Alexander Beketov, who won the individual gold, and Valeriy Zaharievich. Kolobkov was fencing the worst out of the three Russians and the team was down by 6 or 7 going into the final match, where Beketov started to bring Russia back and when Beketov was within one touch and with not much time to go, the fencers collided with their masks, resulting in Mazzone being cut above the eyebrow.... The whole Italian coaching staff came out onto the piste to "help the doctor put a bandaid" onto the Italian fencer, giving him all sorts of advice.... Beketov's momentum was lost and Mazzone got the winning touch... What a match.... |

| A couple of suggestions:
Sabre semi-final in Athens between US and France - when Touya's hand was cut at 44-44 (funny how the first nomination also included the spilling of blood!!).
There was also a phenomenal match in Men's Epee, '97 World Champs between Korea and Germany, where Arndt Schimtt pulled back about 13 hits in the last bout to give Germany the victory (if I recall correctly).
Also Women's Epee, 99 World Champs, the match for 7th & 8th place, I think, to determine who filled the last qualification spot for the 2000 Olympics. Italy against the unheralded Norwegians, Italy led 40-35 going into the last bout (Cascioli to fence Moerch, I think) and lost. Cascioli went on to qualify in an individual capacity but her teammates didn't ... |

| I'm going to be a little self-serving here... but I need to go with the 2003 Pan-Am Games Men's Foil Gold Medal Match, USA v. Cuba. Entering the last bout, Cuba was winning 40-30...

| More a local legend....I think it was PCCs a few years back where one sabre team was down 20 points going into the last rotation. The anchor was German Zilbershtien (sp?)....went on a real tear and came back to win the event! |
