Cool. What's the rationale behind fluorescent pigs though? So that the farmer can find them easily when they escape in the middle of the night?
EDIT:
The scientists will use the transgenic pigs to study human disease. Because the pig's genetic material is green, it is easy to spot.
So if, for instance, some of its stem cells are injected into another animal, scientists can track how they develop without the need for a biopsy or invasive test.

Wow. That's really neat. I wish I was glowing green...think of the stories you could tell... Think about someone you know of "average" intelligence. Then think that half the world is dumber than that.

Why in the world are the scientists working on making pigs glow in the dark when we still don't have flying cars?! It's the 3rd millenium - the 21st century - we're supposed to have flying cars by now! Back in the '50s, they promised us flying cars!

They actually are working on them, and there have been a few likely prototypes made (google: Skycar). Though the problem is that there are enough objects flying around, and they're hard enough to keep track of as it is. If everyone had a flying car, it'd be a nightmare for the FAA, and one solution that's on the table right now is an automated guidance system that'll do the flying for you, but it's still a long ways away from becoming a practicality.
That being said, I want my jet-cycle!
