Array Will your next car be a pair of shoes? 'Cause Adidas 1 running shoes cost a bundle: http://www.popularmechanics.com/outd...tml?page=1&c=y
Adidas engineers designed a closed-loop system that senses the amount of shock input to the foot, and continuously adjusts the amount of damping to keep the cushioning level within an optimal preset zone. The system adjusts on the fly to any combination of running speed and terrain.
Impact is measured by a magnetic sensing system. A sensor is placed just below the runner's heel and a magnet is located at the bottom of the midsole. On impact, the sensor measures the distance from top to bottom of the midsole to determine the degree of compression and the amount of cushioning being used. The sensor does this about 1000 times a second and relays the information to the system's brain--a 20-MHz microprocessor located underneath the shoe's arch. This mini computer can make up to 5 million calculations per second, which is probably more than you can.
The brain compares the cushioning level information from the sensor to its programmed optimum cushioning zone. The zone was determined by feedback from runners. The brain then activates a tiny motor, housed in the midfoot, which turns a screw. This in turn lengthens or shortens a cable that is connected to the walls of the plastic cushioning element. Shortening the cable stiffens the element and limits the amount of compression. Lengthening the cable increases compression travel for a "softer ride."

Array At first, I thought you were going to be talking about this: http://extremetoysforboys.com/index....e%20Skate.html
I've always wanted to do something like that to my rollerblades. Though I've always planned on having brakes. -

You know when you go totally blank? How in the hell do you spell hope-ing? You spelled it right.
I'd rather not have a car if I can help it. Perhaps when I get married or something, but for now i just want a motorcycle. I've never really felt all that comfortable in cars. -

Array ahhh - its sooo Russian. lol. - I don't like small birds. They hop around so merrily outside my window, looking so innocent. but I know that secretly, they're watching my every move and plotting to beat me over the head with a large steel pipe and take my shoe -

Array That shoe's cool. More work for software engineers like me! - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
