Array Stenciling Lame's I was just curious as to if anyone knew how to accomplish this? Does it require a special paint? Please let me know. -
You can do it with a permanent marker or with a fabric dye (that's fabric _dye_, NOT fabric _paint_) pen. The Marxes use an airbrush with fabric dye.
I've used my printer and a drawing program to print out names on a piece of Legal-sized paper in a suitably large font (you may need to use a graphics program to get the letters large enough), and used that printout and an x-acto knife to score out the lettering into a piece of adhesive-backed vinyl or contact paper. Then you peel away the backing paper from everything except the letters, stick the paper to the lame, and then pull away the letters. Use a dye-pen to color in the lettering, or an airbrush if you've got one. The dye won't adhere to the metal, but you may give it a gentle rubbing with a scotch-brite pad just to make sure.
You should be able to find all the necessary supplies at a crafts shop (a Michael's or the like) or fabric store.

Array Dave,
What about FIE jackets? I'd like to put my name on mine. Should I just let someone else do it or is there a reliable method for the intrepid?

I use the blood of my opponents, applied with a brush made from a lock of their hair.
All shudder before my might. Many run away -- they are the wise ones. -
FIE jackets take the dye just like any other uniform, or you can just use a marker or, since conductivity's not an issue, iron-on applique lettering (assuming they don't require ironing temperatures that are too hot for the fabric).

Tends to look more "professional" if you get it printed for you (I get my lame done by the vendor who sells it to me). Alternatively you could make it more personal/creative by doing it yourself.
