    Light sabre guard and pommels?

I am thinking about building a very light sabre do any of you have suggestions about very light sabre guards and pommels? What is the difference between the y2000 that blade sells and the regular s2000? How do you clean the green spots off your lame?

I've never seen a light sabre with a guard -- it's not the jedi way.

It's not that it would go against any jedi code (at least I don't think so), it just wouldn't make any sense. I mean, the second the other blade touches your hilt, it'll cut right through, so what's the point?

Could you use a highly mirrored guard? Wouldn't that just bounce your opponent's light saber off? Course, once it got past the guard...loss of fingers, still...

Blue Gauntlet had a brushed aluminum bell guard that I like a lot. Very lightweight and TOUGH too. The last one I bought was before Absolute split off, so I'm not sure which place you'd be more likely to find it for sale at, but I'd definitely look for it the next time I buy or build a sabre.

The lightest pommels I have seen were Italian.

The plastic wrapped pommels designed for electric sabres are pretty light as it is.

Yes, those are about the lightest pommels you're going to find. Essentially just a hex nut with a plastic coating.

I have not heard of "y2000" blades. But there has been some experimentation by vendors with stamping things other than "S2000" on blades...like the year ( S2004, S2005, etc ). I suspect that it's a marketing ploy. Or maybe it's for younger fencers, like a #4 blade or something? Dunno.

The complete sabres you get from most vendors are pretty light these days. That seems to be the vogue, what everyone wants. I doubt you're going to be able to find or assemble one much lighter, or everyone would be doing it. Really, it's more about balance than gross weight anyway...

It's probably the company's way of letting you know it is y-shaped versus rectantular/russian style.

You'll want to purchase light components and assemble the weapon or purchase it fully assembled.

The Leon Paul Lightweight guards are extremely light and coupled with the standard light pommel you get a very light weapon.

The thing to remember is that by making the pommel and guard so light, you move the balance point of the weapon up towards the point. Some fencers get a better feel from having the balance back towards the hand and the balance makes the weapon feel lighter/more responsive.

Ask Peach what she thinks about the sabre she got from me in Pittsburgh - that one had the heavier pommel (17g) on it.

You can get these made up via fencing.net at: Build Your Own Sabre

Why doesn't the "build your own sabre" options then include heavy/light pommel? I guess you could request it in the comments, but if someone doesn't know you have them, they won't know to ask.
