Array Canting an Epee and Favero boxes Hey Guys,
Two questions:
1) What is the proper way to put the cant in an electric epee? Forte in vise and pliers on the end, down 15-degrees and inside (left for a righty, right for a lefty) ~5-degrees is what I've been taught. Haven't done it before though so I thought I'd ask.
2) Where could I get the signalling design that is carried over the RJ-45 connections on the back of a Favero box. I want to build a dongle to hook up the club boxes to a laptop/desktop but I can't get the signal configuration specifications from Favero's website and I haven't the foggiest whether it goes over the wire ethernet style or whether they just use it for cabling (in which case, I need to go through the parallel port).
Thanks.
James. If it's stupid, but it works, it's not stupid. -

Put the tang in the vise, the weapon pointing upwards. Make sure that the junction between the tang and the forte is right against the upper lip of the vise. Then grab the blade high (to get better leverage) and push until you get the angle you desire. Then rotate the blade and do it again for the angle inwards. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

I leave a quarter of an inch between the blade shoulder and the vise. If you jam the blade shoulder against the vise you are not only trying to put all the bend in one place, you actually are stretching the blade along its length.
If you grab the blade high, you can bend the blade sideways. I like to use a plumbers pipe wrench. The jaws are just about perpendicular to the length of the handle so you get good leverage.
Some others use the hole in the end of a crescent wrench. You can then hold both the wrench and blade in your hand and get a good controllable squeeze. You almost need different size wrenches for Foils and for Epees. Whoopee! My avatar is back. -

It's some kind of proprietary serial communications protocol, so you'll have to reverse engineer it. -

Array You can e-mail them. I have the schematic somewhere, but I'd rather ask permission before posting it. The only way to atone for being occasionally a little over-dressed is by being always absolutely over-educated. -Oscar Wilde -

When I read the title, I got a mental image of JBirch trying to cant a Favero box!
Have a nice time!
