I cannot understand how or why the
USFA does "manage" the elite fencers participating in international competition. A quick comparison with the
FIS (Italian) official website.
1. Weeks before any international competition it posts the list of the fencers which qualify to participate.
2. Few days before the actual competition it gives the names of all the participant fencers (those paid to go and those eligible to go at their own expense), coaches, team captain, referees, maestri, armourer, and physiotherapist. It also gives the schedule of the competitions.
3. The day of each competition, almost in real time (some time more than once a day) it publishes the results, top 8 and all placements and results of all Italian fencers.
In the case of the
Coup Heracles in Budapest this weekend (Jan 6-8), a World Cup event for Under 20 in the six weapons, the FIS posted on December 23, 2005, the list of fencers eligible to go to this tournament.

On January 5, they posted the complete list of the participants, including the schedule of the events.

I expect that
every day there will be at least one article on how everybody is doing.
Meanwhile at the USFA...
Nothing on the home page.
If you go to the
new international program page of the USFA, after clicking for each of the 6 weapons, you can add up what appears to be a
US contingent of 50-60 fencers registered for all the weapons (not clear about the alternates).
Is it really so difficult to put up a single list of who's going on the front page wishing them all good luck?
And what about a brief report of how they did?
Hmm...
:-(
