Bungee Lunge trainer

Hello,

A few months ago I saw on this website under "Training Equipment" a rubber band/bungee cord sort of thing that attaches to your upper thigh and leg to give resistance training for lunges. Does anyone know where I can get one or get more info on that or similar devices that might help build lunging muscles? I can't seem to find anything at all like it and it seems this website changed.

Thanks

Gabe

Make one yourself. Get a lifting belt, and some bungee cords. Attach the bungee cords to a wall, and then to the weight belt. Voila.

I would be hesitant about executing a specific fencing action with added resiatance. Most of the current research ( i.e.baseball batters with heavier bats) show no benefit. In fact it may even be counter productive. The added resistance may throw you off your ideal lunge form.

Rather build you leg and hip muscles with squats, lunges and deadlift and then the added strength with aid your lunge. Work on your lung seperatley.

Lunge conditioning

One thing you might consider if you want to develop "explosive" power is doing squat jumps. Grab a dumbell in each hand and make like a frog -- springing up and cushioning your landing as much as possible. Work up to three sets of 10 and then increase the weight.

Be sure you're warmed up thoroughly before you try these, or you risk injury.

Yeah, hold your breath for a really long time. It should work even better while you hold your lunge position with bungee cords attaching you to the wall. Your lungs will get very strong.

You can just use a regular bungee cord you can find in most gyms. All you need is a partner to hold it for you. (S)he will also be useful in terms of paying attention to the way you execute your motions as developing bad habbits is indeed a possible hazard. Despite hwta has been said earlier, I fuind these excercises very useful for both lunging and fleching and high level athletes who do them all the time. Just be sure to do a set of normal (no resistance) lunges right after you finish your resistance set. It'll be pretty fun too, cuz you're legs will feel so light for a first little while. The danger here is not to put too much effort in while your muscles adjust to the change in resistance or else you may end up on your face.

Sprinters run against bungee cord resistance to develop power-- and they also work with bungee cord assistance to lengthen their stride and quicken their pace. I'm certain that this can be used in fencing training -- bungee-aided lunges/fleches, lunging/fleching downhill. Has anyone developed a systematic set of such exercises? (I've seen one or two instances.)
