Array It shows you a series of footwork exercises starting with basic examples evolving into intermediate exercises. I personally liked it, but I am certain that more complex and advanced exercises could improve the DVD. In my opinion, it was worth its price. -
I placed an order for it christmas day so I will let you know what I think of it.
I am just looking for new footwork exercises because I can only get to fencing three days a week so I need some variety on what I do at home. -

Array I like it. Very fencing specific conditioning drills. As JEC mentioned, it is lacking substance as a training program. It presents the exercises and you are left to assume that they are progressive in nature. Very little background information on the purpose of the exercises or any help with a training regime.
If you are a coach or a dedicated self-trainer with experience, you'll be happy you got it. If you are a beginner, start with something else. "Since when does being a patriot in America mean shutting your mouth?"

Array Totally worthless...
The only way this DVD has any value is if you have never ever seen footwork before, and for that purpose it moves too fast. Like many poor instructional videos, it is a steady stream of 5 seconds of How-To followed with 30 seconds of someone performing very well and very proficiently. Do not expect to be able to work along with this video. I strongly advise NOT purchasing this item. Take your time. Read carefully. -

Array Totally worthless ... if you're a USFA Div. I fencer (or higher), but at other levels, it could be helpful. Keep in mind that this is intended for beginner and intermediate fencers. -
OK it sounds like it is pritty pointless getting it what would you recommend getting to improve ........ well improve anything for a sabur with only 6 months expirence ? Also you must take into consideration that that i only fence once a week and at home where i intend to us this its only me that can fence none of my family are that keen on helping so a two people video is useless , is it worth just getting a very high level competition dvd and learning from there moves ? see you cant get rid of me !!!! -

Array If you only have fence for 6 months, it would be likely that this DVD would be useful to you. However, the footwork exercises are geared to foil/epee and not so much to saber. Getting a DVD from Saber world championships is probably more helpful to you. -

I have never found a training DVD that I found as useful as taking a camcorder to the gym/to a meet, and asking someone who knew what they were doing to show me x, y, and z. I've also found the competition DVDs to be rather helpful.
If you're just starting out, the footwork DVD is the only one I'd recommend but it's not like an exercise video where you can follow along.
Okay... who wants to volunteer to meet me at Reno in March? I'll bring my camera. Everyone else bring their gear and we'll record a footwork drill video and burn a DVD. Or maybe we can persuade some professionals that there is an opportunity here. -

You're NOT going to learn new footwork from this dvd.
They should have called it "Footwork Conditioning". Even so, the concepts are not presented in any detail. It needs more. This is a DVD of exercises. Nothing else. No guide for progressive training.
I still liked it. The exercises can provide a fairly intense, fencing-oriented workout.
For example, the first exercise for 'On Guard':
1) Stand in "On Guard" position, making sure to keep knees bent.
2) Jump into the air, returning to On Guard position.
3) Repeat.
This is a great drill for correcting On Guard. They just don't bother telling you on the DVD. If your On Guard stance is too high, ie legs to straight, you will have a tendency to drop your trunk down in order to 'preload' your leg muscles so that you have sufficient power to make the jump. After a few of these, you start getting a good feel for about how much your knees should be bent.
The DVD, however, just moves on to the next drill. "Since when does being a patriot in America mean shutting your mouth?"

Voiceover describing the actions?
Voiceover describing "what can go wrong" and "how to correct"?
Showing common mistakes and correcting them?
Some more footage, increase time spent in the video on each drill?
I'm interested in making the products better - either by having the original author improve on their version or making a new one, so I'd like to get some feedback / constructive criticism on this.
Thanks,

All of the above AND drills at the end that a person can follow in front of the television. I know this isn't Richard Simon's fencing workout, but I would very much like to see a workout video-like segment at the end with one leader and a few pupils demonstrating the steps slowly and picking up tempo near the end. Start with simple drills and slowly progress to the more difficult ones. -

I didn't see it on the fencing.net store site. We sell it but it is out of stock at the moment. We're waiting on it to come back in.
When we don't have it in I refer customers to Fencing Footage.
