    Tailoring/ cusomizing Electric Jackets

I got a new Leon Paul Electric Jacket for christmas but it is too big and I can't take it back because it already has my name on it.
I am going to try taking it to a tailor to get the sides taken in and make the shoulders a bit smaller. My question is: will it work? Will it get damaged and lose conductivity?
    I would appreciate some advice.

Thanks, Merry Christamas and happy new year.

Making a big jacket smaller is no big problem, after all, all that has to be done is to remove surplus material. The cost for this is another matter...

One thing to make sure who is doing it knows the rules involving electric jackets. First there is the lining, It should technically not be pierced as it should insulate the lame material on the inside. Also the fit is important along the legs and shoulders. Also make sure the each panel conducts to the next.

Knowing the rule book by heart means nothing, if you don't understand the rules.

I've had all my gear professionally tailored to fit my unusual measurements -- especially so in the recent non-fencing years.

I had express to my tailor special concerns regarding the uniform and lame... meaning that I had to demonstrate the necessity for toughness in the white uniform (extra, extra strong stitching) as well as the continued conductivity in the lame over the seams and hems (correct terminology?)....

This tailor is also aware of special needs in my refereeing uniform, due to repetitive stress in certain points in the jacket.

As far as fencing gear, I haven't had any problems. Just be absolutely sure about how much you are cutting (i.e. read the Rule Book, especially material section).
When you have three Romulan Warbirds blocking the escape route, Worf has an emotional breakdown about his childhood toy, Riker announces he's gay, Data's positronic brain gets a virus, and Geordi quits because he's had just one too many imminent warp core breach.... Just sit back, breathe, and follow these simple steps:
