South America's Current Political Climate

Given that Morales is poised to win in Bolivia: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...International/, barring a CIA assination, da Silva is President of Brazil, Chavez has been re-elected in Venezuela and Castro is well, still alive has the major US media even blinked an eye at the growing left-wing curve of South America?

With the current political administration I expect that it is less than favourable. However, since Bush is mired in Iraq there aren't enough resources to combat this "threat".

Especially interested in anyone from the region who can comment.

Or anyone who can comment intelligently at that.

Well, should it really be a problem solely based on the leadership of foreign countries? The US has had (and still has) quite a few successful trade deals with countries that are governed by a system it doesn't agree with...

These new leaders are anti-american in terms of colonialization and explotation of their countries and are thus at odds with the White House economically/politically.

The sucessful trade deals, ex. China, are in place because each country has a non-vocal criticism pact so to speak. Whereas these countries freely criticize the US.

To pick an example in Latin America -- Venezula's single largest trading partner (to which they export 55% of all their international trade) is.... The United States. The US is not a fan of their current leadership, but we still do deal with them.

As we do with other countries as well... such as China and other places... like France
