| The best 'U' in the country?... I was looking at the preregistration for the Rose Condon tourney in Shreveport(Bossier City),LA and they have Tamir Bloom in the men's epee as an unrated fencer...I thought he was on the 2000 Olympic team,so even if he stopped fencing right after that,he should now be at least a 'B-04',right?...It really doesn't matter what his rating is because he's going to be very tough anyway, but I thought that it was kinda weird,though...and it'll make the Rose very interesting indeed!

| Hmmm, depends on how his knee is, and he has been gone for over 5 years now... but still, he should be seeded as a B04. Either way, I'm sure his rating will be corrected in due time. Either that or it's time for him to start shoveling to stay in shape - that's how I do it! |

| I imagine being from NY FRED may not have encountered him before (he has no results listed there) and so someone was careless when entering him into the system. If it isn't caught before then, you may bring it up when seedings are posted, of course. |

| Well, in the 03-04 season, the strongest unrated fencer was Leif Roiz, ****in scary.

| Are we talking about epee only here?
Because Vassil Etropolski, despite being in his mid-40s, is a former world champion in sabre and unless he recently earned a rating should at least be in the running for scariest U in the country.
Then there's sergey isayenko a couple years back. So on and so forth.

Well, he is listed as having fenced at the pittsburgh NAC, and finished 37th, so even if he got some sort of waiver to compete in the DivI event, he now has to have at least an E. |

| He may look scary, in a way a pooch might be. You haven't fenced someone "scary" until you've fenced one of those hungarians... They could all play spooks in the movies!

Don't know if he had any FIE point at the time, tho. |

| He had plenty, I think he was ranked in the top 16 at that time in the FIE standings...

I don't know if it applies to this situation tho, Vassil was fencing his first tournament in 20 years and had long since fallen off any point standings. He was seeded second from the bottom initially, as a C02 - the lowest letter they could assign him to allow him to fence.

| In the case of Cedric, Tomasz, etc I think local tournaments, unless they're officially aware of who someone is, aren't going to bother doing background checks on all their entries. |
