    To Stencil or to Embroider

Just a heads up for anyone who is looking to have their name put on the back
of a new jacket. Used to be that you had to have it stenciled using a paint/dye.
You now have the choice of having it embroidered. I noticed at the NAC
that there was an embroidery machine with the t-shirt sales. The last time I
asked, their price was over $30. Advantage to embroidery is that it doesn't
fade like the stencils. I have one jacket which is used 4-5 times a week and
the embroidery has lasted several years with only a few threads breaking
    and no fading in color.

If you don't want to wait till the next NAC/Summer Nationals here is a shop
in South San Francisco that I got mine done at a month ago for $16., name and USA.

OF COURSE shipping is extra which may mean that it is cheaper to wait
for the NAC. When they ask about size, their largest is about 3 inches which
    is about what is desired.

About isn't good enough. 3 inches is 7.62 mm which doesn't meet the minimum 8 cm, maximum 10 cm, requirement.

And at the 2000 Junior/Cadet worlds in South Bend, 7.62 mm was failed.

As fencerbill said having it last a long time, doesn't mean a thing if you are not allowed to use it. 2000 wasn't the only time it has been failed for 3", but there was probably more there than almost any where.

I was under the impression that there was no minimum height for the letters, just the 10cm maximum:

Explanation concerning names and country designation on uniforms:
The fencer's last name and country designation must be legibly printed by hand or machine in dark blue capital letters not more than 10 cm high either on the back of the uniform or lamé between the shoulders; or on the front or side of the thigh of the "rear" leg; or on a piece of fabric or lamé material that is firmly sewn to the uniform in such a way that it will not detach during fencing or catch the opponent's point. Fabric attached to the uniform must be the same color as the part of the uniform to which it is attached. Lamé material must be attached in such a way as not to alter the conductivity of the metallic vest or jacket.
Does the 8cm minimum only apply to FIE competitions?

Anyway, I recently got my name embroidered on my jacket. I have not fenced with it yet, so I can't comment on durability, but it looks great. It cost me about $20 at a local t-shirt/embroidery shop. Most places that make uniforms and/or t-shirts can do embroidery.

Note to be picky, but it is 8-10 CM not MM. 7.62 MM is well under an half an inch tall, or the same width as a .308 round. It would not be readable unless you were about 2 feet away and paying attention.

[COLOR=MediumTurquoise]I have been offer this service for well over a year now. Were do you think Pro Print wear got the idea from. visit my website for prices www.yeoldearmourer.com we put them on a panel were you can have them sew on and remove them when you replace your jacket. We also do the USA as well. There is no guessing on our part about the size of the letter as I go to the max allowed by the rules. Plus you have to check what type of sitches they use if it a satin sitches it will catch a tip were as I use a fill stiche which is much tighter and less likley to catch.
