What is a Chinese grip? isn't an American grip just an oversized Belgian?

Grips are a very personal matter of choice. Go with whatever feels good. The only way to know if a grip is for you is to try one.

That's the problem with giving names. If you buy an American grip from American Fencing, you will not get an Over-size Belgium, you will get a modified Belguim with the bottom prong cut off.

I believe Chinese grips are extremely similar to visconti grips. They are much cheaper too. However, the one size fits all rule apples to these. If you have a very small or extremly big hand, these aren't gonna help.

yupz those chinese grips are similar but feels distinctly different from the uhlman visconti grips i tried. they are rather common in singapore. the part where you rest your thumb has cross-hatches notched to improve grip. but i find them too small for me; i wear a size 9.5 glove.

hold the grip and see if it feels the proper size for you. You only learn what is correct for you by using one for a while. So you wind up with a couple of extras that didn't quite make the cut.

Just an aside, but I really have been steering clear of chinese goods especially in fencing. I understand the cost issues but so far my experience has been that chinese made goods are just too cheaply made. YMMV

The great thing about the Chinese grips are their price. I used to modify these by sawing them a bit. They are great for foil but Uhlmahn's viscontis might just be better if you do not have a generic hand size.
