    Those shoes are my babies!!!!

When my classmates were writing to the President, Santa Claus, or pop-star of the week, I was writing fan letter / suggestion / field test report to Adidas about their fencing shoes! I was already an Adidas freak long before the whole Adidas fandom even hit the US.

I personally went through six models for my own use. And I used them to their maximum wear, and then some. Just about every new design features of every generation (i.e. reinforcement points), I had a personal knowledge of why they were added. Because I would use them until they are all burnt and ripped through, and then I'd use them for some more!

I was ecstatic when I found out that Adidas finally released an asymmetrical shoes for fencing! I had been asking for 'em for almost a decade!

LOL. I got a look at the site and no kidding...

The funny thing about it though, especially with me being a shoe fetishist myself, and seeing errors! What a bizarre, anal retentive fetishist would make such simple errors?

Because I made that entire site in one afternoon..... after someone privately asked me for fencing shoe advice.

Well, if you look back into fencing books from the 1800's, Radaelli and Parise for example, you'll see them fencing in essentially military/riding boots with a slight heel, or shoes that look suspiciously like Oxfords/Wingtips..

I think Aldo Nadi said something in "On Fencing" about shoes as well, with regards to a slightly softer leather sole. Senac (IIRC) in his 1926? book published by spalding talked about shoes, and said that while some people now prefer rubber soles, the leather soled shoes were superior.

Personally, with flat feet, a slight pronation problem, and prescription orthotics, I can't imagine trying to fence in stuff like they did back in the day.

I haven't seen any comments about footwear in the old manuals, but I'll see about flipping back through a couple of them and see if I can turn up any recommendations from back in the day. I'd bet they're pretty painful overall.

I use an Asics Gel Rocket volleyball shoe for training (cushioning) and a Puma gum sole Speed Cat for tournaments. ...Kind of like walking with foot weights: When I get the Puma's on my feet feel lighter. The punishment of footwork requires something more cushioned than the Puma's...hus the Asics.

Once threw a Danner orthotic in the Asics. Was good extra support, but messed-up the sock fit.

What can i say....I've become the Prince(ss) and the Pea.

I've had a pair of the LP shoes for a few months, they're well broken in and very comfortable IMO. They are still all in one piece and seem to hold up well, no problems as of yet, I am one of five people of my club that use/love them. Another member of my club has the d'art IIs, though he likes them, he has already worn a hole in the side of the two in just a month of owning them.

    le coq sportif "escrime"

It appears this old sports gear company is back. I picked up a pair of le coq sportif "escrime" at the local Finish Line store today for $39.99. They look alot like the tiger asics la fencer and have a rubber sole. I'll try them out next week and let you all know what I think . I have been using asics indoor volleyball shoes.

I know most of you will cringe at this one, but I like some good old wrestling shoes, high top style, and I buy a nice gel heel cup to lessen the impact on my front heel.
Works quite well for me and many others that I fence with.
A moment of peril is often also a moment of open-hearted kindness and affection. We are thrown off our gaurd by the general agitation of our feelings, and betray the intensity of those which, at more tranquil periods, our prudence at least conceals, if it cannot altogether supress them.

You would generally want a shoe thats flat on the bottom and dosent let you slide around. If you dont want to spend a lot you could go for converse allstars many kids in my school fence in those. Or next time there is a fencing event close to you the vendors will let you try on whatever there selling so you can choose wich one you like best.

I currently wear the LP/Hi-Tech blades and they are VERY comfy after being broken in. At first they seem stiff and sometimes dig into your back ankle in a lunge, but after wearing it in for a while it goes away. The cushioning on the heel is really good (without a heel cup) and the traction is excellent on gym floors unlike some other fencing shoes. Great shoes overall, I cant think of much to complain about other than the shoelaces being slightly too long for me.

More power to you. I for one can't imagine fencing in any of the wrestling shoes I've worn (granted it's been a couple of years since I've had to look for serious wrestling shoes as my competitive wrestling career has taken a back burner to fencing). I would without a doubt kill my feet and the shoes. Currently I'm in the camp wearing the LP Hi-Tecs....but then again I've been in that camp since Nats. so I probably seem biased by now.
I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.
