    Cold Weather and Blades

    What do you think, fencing with cold blades will cause em to break?

    Opps somehow messed up on title of thread...

    This may be an urban myth, but... (this disclaimer is made with the knowledge that there are metallurgists around this forum) I have always thought of cold steel as a FACTOR is blade breakage, yes.

    Will a perfectly good, new FIE blade break 'cause it's cold? Probably not. Is a rusty, kinked, cheap old blade more likely to break when it's cold? Yes.

    Cold metal is more brittle. So like El Chucko said, it would be a factor, but not always the most important.
    I'm a "standard" fencer. I do things a bit differently so please forgive my ignorance on certain issues.
