    Hello

Hello all, I'm new here. I've been fencing for about a year now, mainly foil and sabre. Last month, I went to my first regional tournament and did quite well in sabre; I'll be going onto a provincial competition in a couple months. I've started taking it all a bit more seriously and thought I'd check out the fencing community online.

Other than that, my name's Elizabeth, I'm from Canada, and I'm very much a geek/nerd. I like speculative fiction, science (mainly geology & physics), computers, languages, math and political science. I'm also a tree-hugger and like hiking & cross-country skiing.

Welcome, Elizabeth. That's a very lovely name by the way. Good to see another foil/saber fencer on here. What are your impressions on epee?

I don't really care for it, although I do adore the clunking sounds of epee parries...

So, care to tell us a little more about yourself? Being a "geek/nerd" that's into languages and is a tree hugger, I think you'll get along pretty well with some of the other people here.

Awww.... Jack, she's a "tree hugger" because of the tornados that blow through Alberta! All Albertians are that way... it keeps them out of Saskatchewan.

Well, I'm sure the trees appreciate it anyway.

So, Elbethil, what languages are you into?

That reminds me of an amusing story I heard from a girl I had somewhat of a crush on when I first started fencing. She was riding a dirt bike, and hit a jump too hard. She ended up kissing a tree the hard way. And yes, that's exactly how she put it.

    I envied that tree...

Mainly European and North American ones. I'm most interested in writing systems. I really like learning new abjads and syllabaries. I also like inventing my own languages, it's a fun thing for me.
