Team Socks Hi,
I'm the captain of the varsity fencing team at my univeristy and we are looking at getting a set of team socks. The school's colors are red, blue, and yellow. We were thinking of getting all three colors in a band on the cuff of the sock while leaving the rest of the sock white. Anyone have any ideas where I could get these socks custom made?
Thanks! -

Array Check with your athletic department. They usually have contracts set up with suppliers. It makes it easier to do that rather than trying to get a new vendor set up. Good luck. -

Array If you can't find a custom sock maker you could use a colored "garter" (more like simple ribbed elastic) to wear the the top of your socks which will look like a band at the top of your socks.
You might be able to find some at a craft store or cloth store, though it may be hard to find them in all the colors you want. -

Array Anybody out there use soccer socks for fencing? They are available in a lot of different color bands or the whole sock itself from yellow to black. Now and then I see soccer nike socks on sale for $5 for 2 pairs. -

Array I don't use footbal sock myself but I've seen plenty of people use them successfully. If they're cheaper then why not? -

Array Buy a lot of the Triplette socks, they are my favorite and their cheap. Then get them coloured. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array There are several sports team clothing suppliers out there who specialize in team apparel. An easy way to go about it would be to do a search on Google (or some other search engine) for "soccer socks"; you should get a decent number of hits, and then start looking at sites.
I wear soccer (football, for you non-US people) socks; they're relatively inexpensive, come in different colors, and hold up well. Another inexpensive option for a solid-color sock would be football (that's American football) socks, which you can usually get from the same suppliers as soccer socks.
Good luck. Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -

Array I have seen some fencing teams use two different colored football socks to indicate thier team in competition. One red, one black. You could do the same, one blue sock, one yellow, with a red band on the top of each to indicate your school.
Could work, and would be cheaper than having them custom made. Don't take life so seriously... You'll never live through it. -

Array Sounds like a workable plan...only I'd go for one red sock and one blue with yellow bands at the top of both. (Personal preference.) Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -

Array Our salle (salle pouj) uses two soccer socks, one with a thick red band and another with a black band. -

Array I would suggest skipping on the socks. You have a university team with an ever changing group of members. Just get patches or arm bands. Then, you won't have problems searching for replacement socks in the future. -

Array Hey, I know...socks and matching arm bands!
I like it...
Anyway, if you buy stock designs and you always buy from the same supplier, it shouldn't be hard finding the same socks year after year.
After all, it's not like soccer, football, baseball, etc. are going to suddenly stop buying and wearing colored socks...and as long as they wear them, we can ride their coattails. Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -
Do you know anyplace that does custom designed soccer socks? Got thinking for a while and a pair of black socks with a flame imprint would be pretty striking. -

So, the socks you seek are out there, you don't need to get them custom made, just find them. We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean

Array What I want to know is where to get WHITE socks. Long enough for fencing, with NO colors, NO logos, No stripes, NO "Adidas" blazoned across them, just plain, old, unadorned, vanilla white socks... Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array It, the problem is that men's athletic fashion has moved away from over-the-calf tube socks; everyone carries ankle socks these days. Where you used to be able to find long socks at any K-Mart, Walmart, etc., they're scarce nowadays--at least, they're scarce in the sizes I need, which is Big-n-Tall.
Inquartata, try the link below. They sell Wigwam socks in the 13-16 size, which do well for me.
