Array Gianna Habluetzal-Burki's website I was perusing the links to homepages and checked out Gianna's homepage. That's a pretty well-produced webpage! And she knows what she's doing to take advantage of her recent successes.
I also noticed she has a link to <a href="http://www.fencing.net" target="_blank">www.fencing.net</a> in her links page.
I think that, for fencing to succeed in the media, we have to emphasize the looks and the personalities of the (good-looking and personable) fencers. There's a lot of material out there, and we're busy tinkering with foil timing going from 350ms to 250ms (still in discussion). A couple headshots of Gianna in various mainstream magazines (anything from Elle to Gear to similar periodicals) should do the trick.
How about putting Paolo Milanoli in the eligible bachelors section of Cosmo? -

Array Ok, let's change the topic a bit...
Name the top-ten good looking guys in fencing.
Name the top-ten good looking gals in fencing.
Well, maybe not. Don't want to have this thread
degenerate into a name-dropping/finger-pointing
flame war. Or, maybe we'll let Craig deal with
that. <img src="graemlins/jester.gif" border="0" alt="[Jester]" /> -

OK, here goes (among current fencers that we all might know):
1) Ildiko Mincza, Hungary, épée
2) Laura Carlescu-Badea, Romania, foil
3) Gianna Hablutzel-Burki, Swizerland, épée
4) Sylwia Gruchala, Poland, foil
5) Felicia Zimmerman, USA, foil, épée
6) Frida Scarpa, Italy, foil
7) Diana Bianchedi, Italy, foil
8) Sherraine Schalm, Canada, épée
9) Shao Qi Yang, China, épée
10) Hajnalka Toth, Hungary, épée
The order is debatable.
That was more difficult than the World Champ game or the fantasy fencing!

Array Decent list. I'll add Vezzali in there, and Anja Fichtel (although she's somewhat retired). Oh, I'll throw in Luan Jujie too.
Anyone continuing should keep the list to those over 18.
Feel free to add names and faces of both genders. -

Array Ahem, in a word, "Zelda". “General Feraud has made occasional attempts to kill me. That does not give him the right to claim my acquaintance.” -

Go to the top of this page, click on the "Search for Fencing Sites" menu choice (from the green band). Go to Homepages, click several Next 10's and see Gianna's homepage:

Array Oh, and Diana Bianchedi's a cutie, too. Her homepage has some pretty nice pix, except there's too much pop-up ads associated with it. Maybe her web designer sidelines for some porn website. -

Array Get yourself a pop-up killer program. Life's much more pleasant without those stupid things. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array I still say we need Team Playboy to get TV coverage. The Fencing Playmates! Can you imagine all the corps a corps? <img src="graemlins/jester.gif" border="0" alt="[Jester]" /> -

Array I'm not sure that I approve of the tenor of this discussion but Sandra Benad (German sabre fencer) and Claudia Bokel (German epeeist who just won the WC) are both very attractive.
By the way, Craig, I love the new emoticons. MR Why sabre? Because you don't take heads with the point. -
Purple, find a March 1993 Playboy and add Kimberly Donley to the list.
hers were the best looking bad lunges i've ever seen. but she gets points off for practicing without a mask -

I know which issue you're talking about. I talked to Andy Shaw about that. He said it was all a photo shoot set-up. They went over to Westside FC in LA and did the photo shoot there. She doesn't know jack about fencing. But hey, if it's exposure for the sport and might bring in some male fencers (or female fencers who might see Kimberly as a role model , well, who's to argue). I think Mike D'Asaro (senior) was in the pix as giving lessons in the background. Similar Threads -
