Thanks for the answers, people. Simple question, of course, but there's a wide range of answers. I was just wondering if I was the only one with a funky-smelling glove. -

I wash my glove, and all my equipment, when I feel like it.
Though I've been trying to do it every week now that I got a nice jacket.
My glove is absolutely rancid. I can smell it while I'm wearing it on my hand. Actually, its smell stays on my hand after I take it off. This is because I always wipe my sweat on my glove. It's about time for a new glove for me... -

Array I have never washed my glove and it is about 6 months old. It is the BG purple washable glove, and the only time I will consider washing it is when it starts getting stiff. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at him and says, "I'm sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger." -

Array Never I never wash mine and I had this glove for over 3 years...it's a leather glove so I can't really wash it, ya know? As for the smell, I can't smell anything besides the leathery smell...I'm the type of girl who doesn't sweat that much so I guess that's why it doesn't smell "I don’t have a choice, I’m a puppet. The Universe sticks its hand up my butt. If I don’t dance, people get hurt."

Array You guys make me throw up. Whats wrong with washing your unifrom and glove every after everytime you fence?
Gentle cycle and air dry.
I wash my mask in windex and a little bit of Woolite once ever 2 weeks. -

Array Dude, some people fence two, three, four times a week! That's a lot of laundry, and a lot of wear and tear on clothing. Who has time?
I have washed my current glove twice in the last six months. The jacket, plastron and lame once a week. Knickers I only wear in competitions, so they get washed after every tournament. -

I fence 3-5 times a week. After fencing i put my sweaty uniform and glove in a laundry bag so they don't have to touch my blades. When I get home I just pop everything into the washer. Gentle short cycle with just a little Tide and after that I just throw the stuff on a rack to dry over night. all in all it takes about 1 minute to set the washing machine and less than 1 minute to take the stuff out and lay it on the hanging rack.
I hate the people who come to practice smelling like crap, wearing a stained scuffed up uniform. It is disrespectful.
As for wear and tear...
I don't mind buying a new uniform every few years. -

Array And the people who don't have washing machines at home?
It's still more time than I'm willing to devote to laundry, anyway. -

Jeez, buy an extra uniform and do your laundry more often. We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean

Array a) The problem with epeeists is that unlike RL they tend to just stuff their sweaty stuff into their bags--sometimes wadding it up in their masks---and leave it there until the next practice. Over and over and over. It's not the basic smell, so much as the fermentation process.
b) I have never had a complaint from a third party, and I cannot myself detect any smell to a jacket that has been used and dried two or even three times. I conclude that there is no problem. I cannot so conclude from walking past reeking epeeists. -

Most I've encountered have multiple uniforms, air them out, and wash them often. Even the eastern euro's who are not fond of clean uniforms air theirs out. After all sweat is more corrosive than laundry detergent.
Personally, as an epee fencer myself, I have more than one uniform, and wash my uniform after every practice (or air out when a machine is unavailable) like RL. It really does take less than 5 minutes, if you have access. We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean
