    Pants

I was concidering getting some FIE knickers from triplette, but I've heard some bad things about their products, mostly their masks. I was wondering if anyone has ever used these pants or if anyone knows anything about their quality.

The material on thier newer FIE uniforms is really rather nice. It is slick, breathable and fairly durable. While it does not, IIRC, have the cool wicking Transpor liner that LP and Duelist (although the outer material seems to be identical to that used by Duelist) use, they are a good buy compared to the Uhlmann/Allstar and PBT FIE pants. The only iffy thing would be their sizing. Given your location I would highly suggest trying them on before you buy. If you like the fit and don't want to pay the extra money for LP/Duelist they should be a good buy.

My first uniform was a triplette and i didn't really like it. It didn't fit my shape at all. That was their 350 Newton nylon uniform, but i'm guessing their FIE ones will be the same sizing. above all, my jacket did not have the darts in the front like a women's jacket should, and that was my main problem with the jacket. I really like my current non-FIE PBT uniform.

But, hey- if you can try the stuff on and find a size that fits good, triplette IS a lot cheaper than other companies.

I agree with this 100%. My Fie Triplette uniform had some serious "fit" issues. I'm not sure they have invented a body to fit the Triplette design. If you add the cost to have it tailored...
I'm a foil fencer, and I can change, if I have to, I guess.

If you're going to drop money on FIE gear, get it from someone other than Triplette. With my experiences with their products, I wouldn't shop there for anything besides maybe weapon grips. Until they have showed consistant improvements in the quality of their merchandise, you are taking a risk by buying it.

My advice looks like a lot of the others- don't go FIE with Triplette. Triplette's stuff is cheap, and sadly, you get what you pay for. I'd not trust their FIE stuff, and I also experienced the problems of fit, sizing etc with their uniforms. You don't want to pay FIE prices for beginner's set fit.

I've worn some different knickers, and I found the most comfortable/don't show the color of your undies/wear wash well/take mad abuse/ etc are the Leon Paul knickers- I use the "competition grade" and I love them. I ended up selling my old pair (purchased back in my pre-grad-school thin days) to a male fencer in the club, who actually likes them a lot too.

So which brands would people recomend? I've looked at PBT and I like them ok, and I've always heard good things about Allstar too. But I've never really looked specifically at knickers before. So what do most people count as the best with regards to movement, protection, and durability?

I do not care for the feel/stretch of the Uhlmann/Allstar. With the Leon Paul or the Duelist you get a lighter, more comfortable material with a moisture wicking liner that helps keep you cool. I have not used the Duelist (although everyone I know that has them likes them very much) but I love my LP's. Light, easy to move in, the material has a "slick" feel to it which is great since I am an epeeist, and they are nice and cool. They also have awesome fit and finish/detailing. I think they are the best on the market. Of course they are priced as such...

If you like the PBT or the Uhlmann/Allstar it is hard to go wrong with them. I don't like the feel/material/stretch/fit as much, but that is mostly my preferance. If you like them they are a bit cheaper and well made, even if they don't have the wicking liner and are not finished as well.

Lone voice in support of Triplette

I actually just ordered a set of kit (350N stretch) from T for my son (whom has hit another growth spurt). The measurements I sent in, were replicated for the most part in off the shelf pieces (ie. no extra charge at least though I suspect they might have put it together a bit long in the arms as I indicated on the measurements). My son really likes them.

I have some T kit that has lasted me for ages and ages, and I see many examples of older kit from them on vet fencers in the NJ area.

I like that the fabric is thcker over the leading leg and over the weapon side than many of the beginner sets (BG, ABS and others).

I really like that the stretch nylon is really stretchy (and my old knickers have weathered many changes in my own personal, er ... fitness)

The fit has always be fine for me, but I may be the target model of the T patterns, more linebacker than fencer.

The clothing bears out as pretty durable in my opinion, 10 years later, and still comfortable and servicable with minimal repairs (some new velcro, some new elastic).

I would buy clothing from them again.
    Shlep.

I would like to know more about the Spectra FIE gear from T if anyone has more information.

The 350N stretch nylon jacket had holes in it 5months after buying it. I fenced with it and washed it regularly without ever using bleach.

Glad to see that Linkthealmighty is finaly buying knickers! personaly, I'm losing faith in Triplette, especialy their masks, considering that Linkthealmighty has dented it like crazy. I think when I get another pair of knikers they won't be triplette due to the fact that they are see-through on the back The other members of the club made me buy special shorts to wear underneath caus' they didn't want to see my big butt! Knickers with a wicking lining is highly recomended.

There's a fencer in our region who has extremely thin knickers. That is to say, they make it quite apparent what other lower body wear she has on. Perhaps they're the same model Beowulfman6 has.
