Trying to "Un-Retire" Hey Fencing.net group. I am a retired fencer that has gotten the bug in my pants lately for a comeback to my beloved sport. I have actually had competition dreams with some of my old fencing buddies from around the country. SCARY! If I can make it once a week and build on it for a couple of months, I might be able to slowly build up my fitness and confidence to "un-retire"!! I used to fence in the VA area.
I realized that I have always had my parents, coach or team behind me at all times. This will be the first time out on my own. SCARY!!
Anywho, wish me luck. I have some new contacts to buy for my aching eyes and some serious couch potato blahs to shake off!!! -

Array You won't regret picking it up again. Once you start, there's no way back. With or without parents.......Besides, it's possibly a little more quiet without parents, as you can focus on where you're at and not at where they're at....
Good luck! Beat it...Jab it...Stab it...FENCE IT!!! ***little t***Fiskebäckskil!*** Take me 2 YVR! -

Array Welcome aboard - it's great to hear you've made your way back to the sport! You're going to have a great time! Pound for pound, the amoeba is the most vicious animal on earth. -

Array Welcome back to fencing; I'm certain you will find it worth the aches you will suffer. Being sore is part of the game, especially when you're a bit older. Don't forget to stretch!
Brian And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?

neoprene, stretching, and anti-inflammatories First lesson at age 30.
Now pushing 50...but can still (with the mask on, of course) be mistaken for a teen.
Can you think of any other sport where this is possible?
"...Come my friends,
'tis not too late to seek a newer world
...Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are -
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." Tennyson
