Aren't most fencing coaches failures? I think most fencing coaches have failed miserably as competitors.

Not really. My coach used to be a national fencer who competed on a international level, fencing in competitons in all over the world and was very successful. He even used to be the national coach in my country but got tired of the petty politics and came back to train the fencers in his alma mater.

Nope. Depends what you mean by "Miserably". Not everyone can win a world champs/olympic medal.

Its a common Muai Thay training, and some masters in other martial arts do the same to their students.
