Array Flicky Epees? Hey all... I fence epee and like flicking often. The flick is my usual mode of attack. I'm looking for a slim epee, with a taper maybe similar to a foil, meaning a blade very slim near the tip. Any ideas?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Live to fence or FENCE to live? -

Array I don't know about the taper but you should look into LP, they're very light and flexible. -

Array If you want a flexible blade, get a WKC (from triplette) or a vniti or LP.
Seriously, you'd be better off working out your arms and getting them stronger. I'm fairly strong, and I can flick with pretty much with any epee blade. I guess I'm of the school that you never let your equipment rule your game... you are your own limitation. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! Array Also, stay away from the stiffer baldes such as the FIE B2 Belgian is you're specializing in flicks. (Trust me on this, trying to use that sword and going against DFP, ala "Flick-master" proved to be a very messy and very short bout) -

Its not the size of the boat, its the motion in the ocean! "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. I bought this blade from AF, it's probably the most bendiest blade i have ever used. (Heavy though) http://www.absolutefencinggear.com/s...4c42ab24a2b808
ill show you a video if you like -
If you want to flick, develop your technique - find a good foil coach to teach you how to get proper motion in your flick - the blade's not what's really doing the flicking - it's your wrist and fingers. The problem with overly flexible blades is lag time - you do a disengage and you find your point is behind your blade - it makes a big difference. Your blade might whip over and help you land more flicks if you've got poor technique, but the blade will also whip when you're trying to get the tight shot under the guard (oops, looks like you missed that) - if your opponent knows you have a non-responsive blade it's so much easier for them because they know they have more time before your counterattack will arrive on target.
In other words, practice your technique! -

Array don't waste your time with technique and practice, get a good fishing pole, wire it up, then scratch the words "Triplette FIE" into the pole, most ref's won't question it -

Array Thanks for all the replies everyone. I have tried vniti FIE blades and have found them extremely flicky but the balance is nothing i fancy. I'm kinda interested in the LP epees. I live no where near a vendor and can't try out the blades before i purchase any. Can anyone give me more info on the types of LP epee blades?
I also have been working with my coach on developing a good technique with my flicks. I flick with my fingers, 'winding up' as little as possible. My technique is far from perfect though. Live to fence or FENCE to live? -

I am a foilist who does a bit of epee (when I do I like to flick). I have the cheapest LP epee blade they sell, but with all the light weight options. It is beautifully balanced, incredibly light and by far the flickiest blade I have ever seen. In short, an excellent weapon. (Of course I'm a big hypocrite running around in a Triplette jacket...) -
