Should polls bump the thread?

i don't think i need to explain this one.

Just go and look at the off topic.

One person has essentially made it an eye-sore. Polls shouldn't have to bump to the top when they are voted on.

What about making polls Expire after a certain amount of time has passed? Say... a month at the maximum? Depending on the nature of the poll, a lot of time may be neccesary to get the right data. A pre set expiration date may be helpful.

Darn, I should have saw this before I started the Zombie thread thread. That's a good solution too.

Alternatively we could urge anyone who creates new polls to set a time limit, it's possible to do so.

I still think the posting in poll threads only should bring the threads to the top of the page.

i understand the purpose for having polls bumped by votes.

but i think that we're having a problem now, and we'll need to sacrifice the availibility of polls that have active voting but inactive posting in order to keep our water cooler from becoming completely spammed.

Not all polls are created equally.

Here's a great example.

Age Started Fencing

This poll has over 400 responses, and provides some potentially valuable information for marketing/demographic purposes.

That and Cville's threads/polls on weapons, bodycords, grips... in the armory section. Like the one that says "New Poll" which gets me almost every time.

A couple of possible solutions:

1. Bump the polls up to the top, but don't let them look "new." That is, if I've looked at the thread since the last post, it's in bold text. If not, it's in plain text. Currently, polls with only a new vote are also in bold text ... could this be changed, while keeping the bump?

2. Create a "polls" forum (or subforums for each forum), so that polls can be easily ignored by those that don't want to see them.

has this been put into effect? i actually think it happened with this thread because it was at the top of the list but the one listed on the discussion board home page was the next one down.
