Holiday Gift Ideas for the Fencer...

Yes, it's not even Thanksgiving yet, but all the retail shops seem to think that December 25 follows immediately after October 31st these days.

What are your ideal fencing gifts? Big gifts, stocking stuffers...

You can't blame them, Craig. Oct 31 does equal dec 25, after all.

Sorry, bad geek joke. Foam sabres make a pretty good gift for fencers; they're cheap, fun as hell and it doens't matter how large or small someone is, what gender they are, what weapon they fence or which hand they use.

I would say body cords, being relatively cheap (or expensive), but not more than $50.

Things that I've received in the past as either a "big" gift of stocking stuffer:
    • mask
    • socks
    • body cords
    • point parts
    • wicking t-shirt
    • fencing bag

I just had a glass fencing statue made at the local RenFest. I can't wait until Christmas to give it to her. She has all the bodycords on her list, as well as the items needed for her to make her own toolkit (screws, tips, wire, screwdrivers, etc...)

Didn't we have a "Fencing Days of Christmas" thread last year?

    Modified start:

On the 15th Day of November, my true love gave to me,
A sabre blade and a lame....
Why sabre? Because you don't take heads with the point.

Dude, I don't even want to know why a colostomy bag needs to withstand 800 newtons. I mean, that's one thing I wouldn't poke at with a stick....

The tricky thing about clothing, masks, etc is either knowing for sure they need replacing, and knowing the proper sizing etc. It's probably best to talk it over with your fencer and say "I'll buy you a jacket of your choice" or something, rather than it be a surprise. Body cords all you need to know is their connector type.

On my wish list this year: a new jacket or another good epee - both of which I'd need to pick out. Not sure if Santa will think I've been a good enough girl. I may wind up with tip screws.

I wouldn't mind an italian foil blade. I still have that spare italian guard and grip... Though what I really need is a new Jacket. Backzips are a pain in the ***, especially when the zipper tab is busted.

tshirts are always a solid present. i stenciled this image onto a shirt. found it with all credit due to zilverzmurfen. fencingsucks has a ton of images you can use to stencil or even iron on to shirts, pillow cases, hoodies, whatever really. also i got a wooden box and mod podge'd fencing pictures onto it for a friend. looks neat if you do all black and whites, or all pages from the rulebook or something. i prefer making my fencing gifts because its cheap and i find most stuff is kinda cheesy that's out there.

LOL... I do have the effect on people!

Although rumour has it that our very own Latenight has stolen Santa's Naughty Girls (19-35 year olds) list and is making the rounds this year to them.

Travel arrangements to all of the event sites, on dates after the event has completed (hey, it's a gift- if you wanna compete you're on your own). Because how many times do we have a conversation like this?

'I just spent four days in Albuquerque (or Sacramento, or New Orleans, or wherever).'

'That sounds like a great trip.'

'It was, if you like seeing the host hotel and the venue'.
