    Fencing Dad

    Hi!

Just to introduce myself. First of all, I do not fence (and I'm too old to start!); but my son does. I'm studying the armourer's art to help him and his club out.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the Armourer's Q & A. (and as I learn more about the the sport, I suspect I'll enjoy that more!

Too old to start? DAMN STRAIGHT! You must start at five years old! Any older is much too old!

That being said, i started when I was 18, and there are a lot of fencers out there that started MUCH older then I. How old may surprise you. Welcome.

Welcome! Don't say you're too old to start around here, though

I started when I was 43, and I'm just starting to hit my stride at 54. The daughter who started fencing when she was in fourth grade is now in graduate school and out on her own, but meanwhile I'm having my own fencing career.

Tom Hill, a good friend of mine in Los Alamos, started in his mid 40s and at 63 is fencing the best he's ever done in his life.

If you want to armor, though, that's cool. I would strongly advise you to check out Armorer's College next summer; it's a week long class on how to become an armorer at club and in tournaments. I've heard nothing but good things about it.
