Effing someone up

I was at a "just for fun"/pre-season event last August, when a decent fencer kept fleching at me unsuccessfully. (He was decent - not great but not awful.) He was also quite a bit taller than me, and since I have stubby little flipper-like limbs, I like to step-in on many attacks.

On his next fleche, I parried, crouched a little, and stepped-in to try and get a piece of jacket or sleeve. I think he had gotten frustrated with his earlier failed fleches, because he was coming in HARD this time. Well, he hit my shoulder, lost his balance, and went bouncing and stumbling off the strip! He managed to catch himself before falling, but he looked ridiculous, and I started to laugh. It was just too damn funny to watch someone flail and dance and try to keep from falling over like some slapstick routine.

He got really mad, and claimed that I threw my shoulder in intentionally. I said that I was simply stepping-in to the attack, which I often do, and didn't intend to be mean by laughing. Besides, I pointed out, it is his prerogative to maintain control when fleching.

I didn't mean it, honestly (*giggle*).

I am curious about why you think that I think you are interested in my ben-wahs. I don't see how that is relevent to the discussion, but seeing as how this is a discussion, and intellegent discussion is based on effective communication, I do appreciate and understand your confusion.

Effing someone up:

Fencing is about fighting and unless you are willing to do what it takes to win, then you are wasting your time by fighting at less than your total potential. This seems pretty straight forward to me.

In a few weeks I will be visiting my adopted white family for thanksgiving. I would be ashamed to show my face at their table if I lived my life at less than my potential.

I've only been tempted to once, two straight on shots with the elbow to the mask, with the ref not saying a word, and saying fence as I was trying to tell if my nose was bleeding or not. Meh, I got over it and won, all in great fun.
