| Adidas Adistar and D'Artagnan II I'm looking at these two shoes and I've searched the internet to try and find the differences between the two. All I could really find was that the Adistar is about $100 more (depending on where you look) and is hand specific. I know there is more then that, but what is it?

| The adistar has better support and traction, and generally better durablity. They're not like, $100 worth of better though. Fencing shoes tend to follow the rule of diminishing returns.

| I would recommend the D'Arts, but then you'd expect that

Everyone that I've seen wearing them that I've talked to all says the same: the quality is sh!t. Some people at my club has them and they all say the same; excellent grip and soft and comfy, but after a couple of months use they literally fall apart. And I mean it, they fall apart.
I only recently got a pair of D'Artagnan II's to replace my beloved indoor/court shoes. I haven't worn them anough to comment on the wear and tear factor but they're alright. They're nowhere near as comfy as my 'court' shoes, but still, alright.
They're ok for me but if you have wide feet I suggest you look for some other model as the D'Artagnan II tend to be a little narrow.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll find LOTS of comments on both shoes. Remember to use the Search function, and also take a look in Product Reviews. Good Luck!
Oh, and the Adistars are not foot specific to my knowledge!
Atleast not that I have seen.

| I'm not a fencing shoe fan, but the people at my club prefer the D'art.
The Adistar has better support, cushion, and traction, but my teammates wear them out so quick, that they prefer the D'art's which last them longer.

| I wear the Adistars, and I've worn them for about 9 months now. While they do show a little wear and tear, it's not extreme and I wouldn't expect other fencing shoes to hold up as well as the Adistars have. I fence twice a week for about 3 hours a night and I go to tournaments about once a month.
Now I haven't tried the Darts, but talking to people who use them and considering almost everyone in my club has a pair, they sound like a good show. I don't know if the $100 price difference in the shoes is enough to justify getting the Adistars.

Atleast not that I have seen. | I've used the darts. In 1 month they had a small hole in the side, in 2 months it was splitting and I had to hold it with duct tape, by the time I threw them away (5 months) I had worn through the toe in the sole, there was no traction left, and I was using a roll of duct tape per month to keep them together.
Mind you, I guess this isnt too bad, considering it was 4 days a week use plus a couple days competing per month.

| Ive got about the same level of use as you with my Dart II's, though I fence sabre. I have had mine since last christmas, and they have needed to be replaced for about a month.

Mind you, I guess this isnt too bad, considering it was 4 days a week use plus a couple days competing per month. | I have three teammates who would disagree with you.
1) wore a hole in the toe protection in one (they day they bought them) tournament.
2) Another wore a hole in two weeks, and the seams started popping
3) the third returned the Adistars after one practice when he burned a hole in the side.
I'm not sure the D'arts are better quality, but it's hard to justify $100 extra dollars for a shoe that'll have a hole in less than two weeks...

| i use the 2004 adistar fencing shoes
They are not hand specific like the 2000 model was.
I think they are the most wonderful shoes in fencing. The durability on them, however is appalling. We had uhlmann sponsoring us at junior worlds so I was able to get several pairs very cheaply. |

| I've had my d'artagnans for about 3 months now, and there's no sign of wear at all. Slight discolouration on the inside of my right foot (the back foot), but thats about it. Fencing 3-5 times a week.
