| Fixing Weapons (Epee mostly) Hey, first time poster.
I was at a competition at the NSFC (Long Island) yesterday and noticed one of the screws in my epee were missing; i didn't tell anyone because i didn't have another epee.
I've never fixed fencing equipment before so ireally don't know quite what to do. Could anyone help me out, or at least point me to a link that could help? Thanks.
Also: if i wanted to buy a kit to fix epee stuff, what should i buy? |

For that specific problem all you do is order some Epee' tip screws and screw one of them in. Problem solved! Now, for other stuff...I'd recommend some extra tips, contact springs, pressure springs, barrels, and wires. Also, some glue to rewire your blade with...I can't think of any good glue brands off the top of my head...but I'm sure someone here has a few. Well...that's all the stuff I can think of at the moment. Good luck!

If you're in NYC, there are a few places in the city you can purchase parts.
Re: Fixing Kit. - There are a few things that I almost always have strip-side for emergency repair. Tools- Tip Screwdriver
- 6mm Allen Key
- Point Setter
- Small Vice-grip
Parts- Tip Screws
- Contact Springs
- Pressure Springs
- Super Glue
Those will take care of practically any problem you have. Standardize your weapons so that you don't need a bunch of goofy tools like those outside hex spanners.

.......... a point setter and a small vice-grip stripside???
*sigh*
this weekend, in between pools and DEs, i was fixing epees. because no one else could fix epees that wasn't fencing or coaching the people who were fencing.
i fence sabre. exclusivly. other than MAYBE once or twice a year.
after the past two weeks, i can safely say that i'm better at fixing epees than sabres.

Standardize your weapons so that you don't need a bunch of goofy tools like those outside hex spanners. | I would change a few things in this list. First of all if you use an outside hex pommel a 6mm allen wrench won't be of much use. I would change it to pommel wrench. I actually carry 12 different ones, so I have what ever is needed. I agree with standarizing, but why inside? Each has their advantage.
On screwdrivers, if you can afford it, get the right size. Most sized jewelers are not cheap. 1.8mm is the preferred size for German/French/British, while 2.0mm is best for Italian/Russian.
I prefer Cementit, but if you need to go fast a super glue can work, but many become brittle.
On tip screw, many Armorers are switching to Leon Paul screw, because of their Class 1 fit.
I do like what was said, otherwise in this post. Very clear and concise.

| Get a second epee. If you tried that on me, you'd have a red card (one yellow for the lack of a second weapon at checkin, and then the red for the non-conforming weapon at checkin.) |

| i was about to say something like that. didn't they check screws at least?
as far as glue goes, i use zap a gap. its fast, works, and isn't all that brittle after it dries.
but if at all possible, find someone else to do your armory work for you.
