U(pset)-19 Men's Epee I was there, I felt the wrath, but can somebody else explain to me, what was with all of the upsets? There were an unusual amount (5 in the top 15 or so) and I was also wondering if this was prevalent in other events as well. This is somewhat linked to my other post "Sleepers" but many of these upset weren't by sleepers but rather they seemed to result from uneven pools (who ever heard of the number 2 seed being knocked out in the top-64?). Are there any suggestions for ways to better handle the pools in such events (two rounds of pools?) I know that Div 1 NAC's use a different format, does this help in evening out results?
Thanks,
-Ian

Ya know, I've seen a lot of commentary on this board about how personal rankings truly balance out over time to their true levels, and how competitors from different regions aren't truly comparable...
So my response to the question here is this:
Get over it. Crap happens. If the "favored" guys are truly any good, then they'll ultimately win some important competitions sooner or later. Maybe they're not as skilled as you thought.
