Referee question

When directing dry foil with four judges, is it appropriate for the ref to call a halt if he sees a hit even if the judges have not raised their hands or is the ref required to wait until a judge raises his hand to stop the action?

Yes. It is. The Judge's vote counts as 1.5 votes. The jury members as 1 each. The jury can answer yes, no or abstain. If 1 says no, the other says yes, the Judge's vote overrules. If both of the jury says no, the judge is overruled.

1. Why are you reffing dry foil?

2. Yes. The presiding referee has the right to and must call the halt if he/she sees a touch. The judges are merely there to determine the MATERIALITY of a touch. The presiding referee has to determine the VALIDITY or PRIORITY, of which if he/she sees a material touch, the bout must be halted.

3. Electric eliminated the judges. The referee has full control of the bout.
