US Missile Defense Shield Obsolete

Wow. We deploy a non-operational 90+ billion dollar defense shield that fails highly scripted tests and two months later... obsolete.

http://www.hindu.com/2005/11/04/stor...0402451700.htm

Now we know why they were in such a rush to roll it out. Alot of military-industrial fatcats would have lost billions of dollars of taxpayers money if this information would have broke.

I know you're just a troll trying to milk a response. So let's compromise. Cancel the failed missile defense programs. Take the $108 billion or so dollars of planned expenditure and give everyone in the middle-class bracket a return.

It's a pity when the trolls aren't at least entertaining.

Sorry, it don't work that way anymore. The economy has changed. We are no longer the primary manufacturer for the 'free world'. Most new jobs in the U.S. are created by small businesses. Give $10,000 to the middle class, they start a small business or invest or just spend it in the community. Give $10,000 to the top and they spend it on drinks on a beach in the Riviera.

This system is working great . . . in India. Instead of "trickle-down", we have "trickle-out." Instead of investing in America, they are investing overseas. The jobs that would have been created here end up being created someplace else. In the end, the only "benefits" gained by the middle class are dirt-cheap toasters from Wal-Mart.

In the age of the global economy, "trickle-down economics" is unable stimulate the American economy anymore. It is obsolete.

You prefer to pay $500 for a US made toaster? Nah. I dont think so.

Just like textiles, consumer electronics, personal computers and automobiles. It's been going on ever since the industrial revolution. Once it becomes a commodity the only way to survive is to lower the cost of production, which typically means moving it offshore. Then the next new thing comes along, and the cycle repeats. What, are you afraid we've run out of ideas and the ability to innovate?

orrrrrr....the rich will be better off. and the middle class will be slightly better off. and the poor won't be much better off at all.

why don't you just give the tax cuts to the poor, who can then get cheated out of their extra money by the rich? everyone still wins, except this time the poor have a chance to actually see the money at some point.

I don't know why anyone should be surprised. "US missile defense" has been wishful thinking from its inception. We never had shipped a working, or even plausible missile shield. What a boondoggle.

Hey Slim, the defense contractors got so much money from this project with nothing for us to show for it - if you're against welfare queens you should devote your attention in their direction instead of the paupers.

I'd also say if you give the $10,000 to the same percentage of the "bottom" as the "top" they would behave in a similar manner, except instead of the Rivera, they'd blow it on strip joints, scratch tickets and NightTrain.

You know the classic line, Slim "It feels sooo good when you stop!"

"strip joints, scratch tickets and NightTrain" ? Well, at least it supports local business...

No, I'm afraid that we have started down the road to economic ruin. Our country can't remain economically strong if families can't build financial wealth.

What we are witnessing is the "opposite of prosperity." Since all those jobs went overseas, the job market has become much tighter. With the job market so tight, Americans are forced to compete with each other for who will work the cheapest. While inflation is going up, real wages are going down. People are earning less than before. Since they are earning less, they are also saving less (if at all). They can't afford to.

Earning less and saving less isn't the road to prosperity. It's the road to the poorhouse. It's the road to a weaker America.

Hmm... did anyone else catch that there were at least 2 significant facts wrong in that original article?

Besides, the Russians have been proclaming they have this missile and are testing it since early 2004. I've always found this a bit amusing, since the US system is going to have only 20-100 interceptors its not like you're to stop a full strike from powers which have more than 100 warheads anyway... What are they planning on doing, launching just one?

Written by a Russian in an Indian newspaper. Dang. How long did it take you to dig this one up?

The week after the F-117 was formally announced, there were claims that a new Soviet SAR radar could find it. I guess that was a waste of money too based on your logic.

Here, this is an American source:
http://www.missilethreat.com/news/200412010003.html

Remember Slim, just because you can't find it on Rush's or FoxNews's website, doesn't mean it's not true...

I read that StarWars ended the Cold War. I don't think that was a bad move.
