Array It's the "failure to assimilate" rather than the "liberal social welfare programs". Most countries in Europe have such programs, but you don't see riots all over the place by everyone who is a beneficiary of those programs.
That said, this is a big problem for Europe, which has a growing population of radicalized, unassimilated immigrants. This week, for those who are keeping count, is the anniversary of Theo Van Gogh's murder. "In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, theory and practice are different." -
no walfare system= not attracting undesireables = no riots -

Isn't a prerequisite for the individual to adapt to the culture, assuming that they are attempting to take up residence in a society that they weren't born into? Why should society be forced to adapt? I suppose you would support shaira courts in these predominantly Muslim areas?

These immigrants are obviously seeking the free handouts offered by a socially liberal welfare infrastructure. Why else would they consolidate in areas that have such high unemployment rates? They are merely hoping to enter illigally, have some kids who are now citizens and then live off of the monthly government checks that come pouring in from the liberal government. If it were not for the liberal immigration policies AND the social programs required to support the immigrants, then they would not have immigrated there in the 1st place, and there would not now be this huge number of 2nd generation offspring born into the welfare class. Failure to assimilate has only exaserbated the social class issues. It is not the underlying problem.
French liberal elite philosophy of making themselves feel better by "helping those poor unfortunates", while refusing to accepting them into "their French culture" that has now become their worse nightmare. The so called French culture is about to be overrun. -

Goodman said the city has a beautiful highway landscaping project and "these punks come along and deface it."
"I'm saying maybe you put them on TV and cut off a thumb," the mayor said. "That may be the right thing to do."
I say lop off the index fingers though. You can't spray paint graffiti if your trigger finger is lying in a garbage can at the police station. It would teach those punks right for spraying paint on a beautiful highway landscaping project. Actually, why stop at cutting their thumb/index finger off? They deface public property, let's deface them. Let's brand 'VANDAL' onto their foreheads. They'll think twice before they tag public or private property again.
The police in Paris should take a lesson from this outstanding visionary. Shaira law allows for hands and feet to be removed for robbery. I say the Police Nationale just whack off a hand every time they catch these 'scum' burning a car. After a couple of infractions, they won't be able to pick their own noses let alone set fire and pelt policemen with rocks. "Since when does being a patriot in America mean shutting your mouth?"

Array I think esskreemr said it best-- these types of incidents of civil unrest have been happening forever. They are older than representative democracy and the welfare state. They happen all over the place, even in places where welfare states don't exist. These spasms of violence aren't limited to one area, one region, one type of government, one age, or one people.
Given the universal nature of occasional civil unrest, it's disingenious to say that these riots validate or invalidate any type of government. -
And don't they have one of those wonderful socialized health care systems?
I think it just shows that we will always have poverty, regardless of how many social programs we create. -

I dont think anyone is trying to invalidate any type of government. I'm pointing out that the problems France is now experiencing a direct result of their liberal immigration and social policies coupled with their elitist social attitudes. -
