The Division I-A is a Group A4 (the only one there is).

    1-4 get A
    5-8 get B
    9-16 get C
    17-24 get D
    25-32 get E

So double congrats to Brad! And to me <grin>. I was 3rd in the WS I-A and earned my A. Saw Cutter do some darn fine fencing, BTW, and she had good finishes in three events that I know of.

And Eric Dew was third in the Division I-A Men's Foil. (I also saw him with a saber lame on at one point so he musta been slumming out-of-weapon in the Div II).

Just an FYI, but Brad competed in all three weapons at various points. But big kudos to his results.

Thanks again Peach. I did have a few moments of "brilliance" . I got to watch you a couple of times as well. Way to go on the A and it was great to hear you took out "you-know-who" by one touch. Scorched her hide a bit I am sure. Maybe that's why she was so determined to give me welts.

I fenced sabre for fun. We did "well" against NYFC in the team bout. Got some respect from them for my parry ripostes (I like doing parry ripostes in sabre. It's very visceral and a great rush to make the parry riposte.) They had to change up against me and moved slower. Oh well.

In the Div II sabre, I went 3-2 in my pool, losing to Angert (who finished top-8) and Burnstein, who was first in Div III. I should have beat Burnstein, since he hit me three times the same way.

I lost in my first round of DE to Kloepper (or something like that) from Kansas. He did the right thing after I took a lead via parry ripostes. He advanced slowly and forced me to counter-attack or search for his blade, and then he came down for the kill.

I was lucky in my tableau in the Div IA foil to get a bunch of scrubs in my tableau. I came out of the pools seeded 8th and had nobody strong in the bracket. The one possible strong one, Yakimenko, lost to Berkowsky from NJ. Berkowsky was pretty good, and after trading touches to about 8-8, I finished him off pretty handily.

I then drew Nick Mosca from Oklahoma in the quarter-finals. Luckily, I had some support from coaches and other fencers who knew how he fenced. They told me what I had to do (attack deep because he only counter-attacks, but he's tall with a long reach, so his counter-attacks could land). I made several good long lunges, despite the fact that my front knee has been killing me all week. I also made him do big, bad actions where I could attack into his preparation very easily. I think I won that bout 15-5 or so.

I next met Schibilia and lost 15-5 or so. He has only one game plan, but it worked very well against me (and Jorge and Perry, and apparently everyone else). I'll work on how to beat that when I get back home.

You made some excellent actions with her, which considering what it's like to fence against her is remarkable. It's sort of like trying to perform correct fencing actions while someone swings a baseball bat at you. My shoulder and chest are well-marked by our encounter. Everybody who fences her gets it. Some of those cuts across the chest take your breath away, literally. Once she stops hitting like that she will do better. Unfortunately, she keeps messing up her pools so that she meets up with people who deserve to do better in their DEs.

Her coaches were SO angry she lost to me, and they really harassed the director afterwards. I like her as a person but it's not a great situation. I was very glad Carly Wells took her out so handily after your bout--I was lucky to be Carly's first bout in the pool in the I-A because she adjusted REAL quickly after that and finished in the medals.

Peach,it was fun to watch Carly annialate her. Like you, I also like her as a person but man she needs to get a grip on her strength. That will only take her so far. Good analagy with the baseball bat tho, I'm still counting the bruises.
