Array Safety Rules in your club What are the general saftey rules that your club uses?
Example: Always wear complete gear when bouting
Never point a blade at an un-masked person
I'm developing a new list and would like to see what others use, maybe merge a lot to make one good new rules list for our club in Amarillo.
Thanks in advance for all post and replies. -

Array Pants required
Regulation fencing equipment required - no homemade stuff as substitutes
Avoid buying used out-of-date equipment
Rubber tips on all non-electric foils
Chest protectors for women
Plastrons for men
Properly fitting jackets - not too big leaving openings
No fleches until properly trained to avoid collisions
Clean rust and nicks off blades on regular basis
Stretch out before each practice to prevent injuries
Replace old blades especially those that have been bent in both directions repeatedly. -

Array Avoid heat stroke/exhaustian like the plague (it's hot and humid down here, and we have no air conditioning)
No raising tip of blade past waist unless you and those around you are masked.
Wear a jacket and a mask and a glove while bouting.
Be careful of bouts in progress and lessons in progress (you'd be amazed how often someone just walks behind one of those ><)
Try not to get hurt -

Array These are our club's rules (Fencing Center of Buffalo):
Fencer's Code
of Conduct
* Never point a weapon at anyone not wearing a fencing mask.
* Keep your weapon point down when not fencing.
* If you see an unsafe situation, call "HALT!" immediately.
* Treat others with courtesy at all times.
* Pay attention to the instructor and follow his or her directions.
* No eating, drinking or running in the training area.
* Salute your opponent before and after the bout.
* Be always ready to acknowledge your opponent's touch.
* Never call your own touch on your opponent.
* Shake hands with your opponent after the bout.
* Behave in a manner worthy of the art you study. "All things must pass. All things must fade away." - George Harrison -

Array One club I visited had a set of rules regarding visitors as well. Children under 8 were not allowed near the strips unless they were wearing a mask, and older visitors were not allowed near the practice dummys. Believe it or not, some parents or visitors saw nothing wrong with standing right next to a practice dummy while a fencer was practicing on it! -

As far as rules go, as long as everybody's signed their "safety waivers," there are no rules... -

Array "Team Booty is bad booty.
Well, if you can't stop yourself.... but.... squad booty is really bad booty! ..... but we're really proud of you for following the rule, because we really didn't think you would. in fact, we kind of don't entirely beleive you are following the rule, but we haven't caught you yet, so we'll go with it."
......... other than that, we dont' have any rules, we just have guidelines. -

Array We dont really have rules beyond the obvious. Wear a mask, dont put a weapon in anybodys face, and no horseplay. Also wear a jacket and a plastron. We were never told anything about knickers. Although, the other day, I was wearing cargo shorts due to a knee surgery, and a coach walks up to me and says, "I really shouldn't allow you to fence in those," then walks off without doing anything. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at him and says, "I'm sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger." -

Mostly because of our retarded PE department and the fact that we have no airconditioning, we actually strongly suggest NOT wearing a plastron OR knickers, because we have had heat stroke issues. Something to keep in mind in some clubs. -

Array No stabbing people above the knee if they're not wearing a mask (You can stab people in the foot whenever you want to oddly enough)
Don't be stupid.
Don't be a jerk. -

Array No fighting without weapons, no armed combat without gear...
Instructors not included, we are our own law... And we tend to show off really carefully! -

Array Point down seems to be the only rule I've ever seen enforced, and only when you're new. Otherwise it's just common sense. There's no page on the wall about rulings etc. I am he

Array There not so much rules, as they are guidelines. Jesus would use the flick. Similar Threads -
