| ROW question again This actually happened. I was fencing foil the other night and my opponent did a double advance lunge into me from quite a distance away. I ran forward, jumped and did a somersault in the air over him and hit his back. Now do I get the point or not? The director threw it out. I hit the guy on the back before I was completely vertical. |

It is left open (i.e. no articles cited), I assume to leave room for interpretation by the director... for stuff like somersaults, cartwheels, throwing sand in opponents eye... etc, that aren't specifically defined in the rulebook. |

| t.87 All bouts must preserve the character of a courteous and frank encounter. All irregular actions (flèche attack which finishes with a collision jostling the opponent, disorderly fencing, irregular movements on the piste, hits achieved with violence, hits made while falling) are strictly forbidden (cf. t.114–t.120). Should such an offence occur, any hit scored by the fencer at fault is annulled. |

| Are on-piste pelvic thrusts considered irregular movement?
Theres a guy @ my club who does this and pretended to hump his weapon after good touches. It is rude to me but he is real good and he never gets a card for it.
He said he learned this move from an australian.

| That would be disturbing order on strip, or possible unsportsmanlike conduct. However, it is not an abnormal fencing action, because it does not take place between the commands "Fence" and "Halt". |

| Or you could more accurately represent the concensus of the thread and realize people don't do somersaults on strip because if you're lucky you'll get a yellow card, and I personally would jump straight to "dangerous action" and a red card. |

| I think the short version should be:
No you don't get the point for the action, however you get a sick amount of style points, and hopefully instill enough fear into your opponent that you can easily win the rest of the bout.
Seriously, I'd love to see action in real time. |

Seriously, I'd love to see action in real time. | I too would like to see this actually done (while hooked to the reels too!).
On another note, if you really want to intimidate your opponent, try setting off his point with the end of your foil... |

| I don't think he gets a yellow card- I'm imagining this flip to be him diving over his opponent, and hitting him on the back before landing on the ground, still facing his opponent but now upside down, and doing a somersault before returning victoriously to his feet. In this case, the touch occurs before the back is turned, although After the halt which would happen as soon as he passed over his opponent's head. So no yellow card, but no touch. |
