Looking for a club in Oakville ON for kids Hi there.. we just moved here and my son, an avid fencer is 'dying' to get into a fencing club. He will be 13 in Jan 2003. We've looked everywhere around here. McMasters has fencing in the summer only. Can anyone help us? Please email us! linda.a@gmx.net. Many thanks!!! -

Array ON isn't a State--it's a Province in Canada.
The link below is to the Ontario Fencing Association; they list several clubs in the Hamilton-Niagara area. I can't give you any personal insight, as I've never been to any of them.
Good luck.

I'd recommend watching what goes on at the club, asking if you can watch the coach working with another young student, possibly ask about previous experience in general and with kids specifically--some people are great coaches, but they just don't relate well to kids. You might also want to specifically watch the coach work with your child. Also listen to the child, you don't neccessarily want to take everything they say at face value--if they say the coach is mean ask them why they think so, if there seems to be an issue, discuss it with the coach, they may not be aware that what they're doing is causing a problem--but if it turns out there's really a problem, find another coach. Sometimes personalities can make a difference, even if the coach has glowing reviews from countless students and their parents, it may just be that he/she isn't right for your kid.
I should note that I don't have kids of my own, however all this seems like sound advice to me. One cat leads to another--Ernest Hemingway.
