| Buying fencing merchandise at tournaments Hello folks, my club is organizing a tournament and we're planning to set up a merchandise booth to sell things like patches, t-shirts, mugs, etc. as a way to raise some extra cash, everything with a fencing theme (drawings, phrases, whatever). So my question is: do you buy/would buy that kind of stuff at a tournament?
In answering to this poll, consider that you like the products being offered, so please don't post comments like "how can I answer to this poll, it depends on what type of stuff you're selling".
On the other hand, you're more than welcome to suggest things that you would buy.
Here are the options, prices in US dollars, and that taxes are included:
1- Yes, I usually buy / would buy merchandise up to US$20
2- Yes, I usually buy / would buy merchandise up to US$40
3- Yes, I usually buy / would buy merchandise up to US$60
4- Yes, I usually buy / would buy merchandise totalling more than US$60
5- No, I don't usually buy / wouldn't buy merchandise |

| I usually buy merchandise at any tournament which invites a vendor to set up a booth and I know the vendor's brands. I'll spend as much as $500, depending on what I need. However, if it's T-shirts, patches, etc., I might spend $20 or I might spend nothing. It depends on what's offered.
Food is usually a better seller at tournaments than tchotchkes, from what I've observed. Edible food, that is.

| I'll buy up to $40 worth of useful stuff. I don't think I'd buy a mug... I might buy a t-shirt. I'd pay $10 for a dry handtowel midway through a tournament, though...

On the other hand I'd have to say I don't usually buy merchandise like this as there's usually nothing like this sold at competitions here in Sweden. Considering we don't have any shops for fencing equipment either I am likely to spend waaay more than USD 20 if, say, Uhlmann or allstar would come and vendor. *hint-hint*
Anyway, it's great that you've sorted the food bits. After all that's most peoples 1st priority whilst on a competition. I hope you club gets a lot of money, good luck!

| Thanks for all the input folks!
Food is a major concern for us. We'll have a canteen offering fresh fruit, cake, juice, coffee tea, candies, ceral bars, etc.
We also usually have a local guy who comes sell equipment, and because he's the only one around, a lot of people buy from him. His material is of good quality and he does fix stuff for free (if it's nothing that will take too much time). |

| I'll sometimes buy a T-Shirt ... maybe 25% of the time that they're offered. This assumes that either (a) It's a design that I find neat/amusing, or (b) It's a tournament T-shirt, and not some sort of generic fencing (or club) T-shirt.
I'd probably buy a mug or two, only because I don't have a fencing-themed mug. It would be a one-time purchase, most likely. |
