Absolute Epee Blades Hello,
Just a quick question. We are planning an order for some new fencers to Absolute. But trying to decide about weapons. Has anyone used the Absolute Standard and Absolute Gold Epee blades? How are they?
Most of the starter blades here are France Ram or entry level Leon Paul but about double the weapon price. Are the Absolute blades ok for practice and for local club competitions?
Thanks,

About the question... I'm just now starting to see people in my club using F-L blades, so I can't comment on the durability. However, the foil blades seem to have a very similar "feel" to the old F-L blades, which I like, though the fit and finish is not as good.. -
Blades Comparing the following for first year epee fencers for practice and for local club competitions. Hopefully something that can save them a little money and last a while.
Locally the shops push these two.
France Lame complete weapon about USD100.00
Allstart (non-FIE basic) complete about USD110.00
(I am pretty new and have one of each. I like te Allstar best and the FL seems really easy to tarnish or rust even when properly cared for.)
We are looking at options from abroad. The Absolute prices look great but not much detail about the blade quality. Here are the two we're looking at.
Absolute Advanced Gold Epee and Absolute Standard as less expensive options.
Also I'm curious about the Uhlmann BF Ultra E complete about USD101 "Forget your fears and want no more..." VNV Nation

absolute epees are tanks. stiff and tip heavy, i've yet to see one take a major bend. thus far, they seem to be fairly well-lasting, but they're not exactly what i'd reference to be high performance. -
hello there buddy,
about a month ago I decided that it was time for me to buy my first fencing kit and I went Absolute all the way... standard mask, a padded jacket, britches, plastron, and the standard epee + bodycord, plus a glove.
I'm very satisfied with the jacket, britches and plastron. the material is sturdy and yet doesn't feel heavy (I've never worn a FIE jacket to compare though);
The glove, after 14 hours seems to be wearing out;
The standard mask is nice, and I actually used it in a provincial level competition (fencing both foil and epee), but I am really unsure if that's wise, I don't know how resistent they are.
Now for the epee itself... It's stiff as hell, I think that once it bends, it will break, can't even dream of flicking with it, but at the same time it's solid and resistent;
I am not, however, an experienced fencer, so I haven't tried a lot of different pieces of equipment to compare. I'm planning on buying a foil electric set from Absolute though. My major concern is the mask. It's ok while it's new, but I'm scared as hell (but then again, I was already scared using the masks provided by my club). -

Invest in an FIE mask, like a prieur, negrini, uhlmann or allstar. All would be good choices. A fencer shouldn't have to feel unsafe while fencing. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Thanks guys,
Yes, getting a better mask is on my plans... Probably not FIE though. Maybe the Absolute Advanced (at the moment I have the Absolute Standard). But I really really with they had the strength of the mesh (or whatever the technical terms are) in Newtons written in the tag.
Another option (was my first choice, but everyone in the club was ordering from Absolute, soo I just followed the swarm) is the BG Olympic 1000N.
From what I get from reading other threats here, it seems Absolute house brand is the same manufacturer of the BG house brand, is that correct? So I'm wondering if the BG Olympic 1000N would be equivalent to the Absolute Advanced.
Thanks,
