Array So what's up?
Is there somethign wrong with the Islamic ambassador complaints?
Something wrong with the Danish newspaper's assertion that it should be free to criticise where it wants?
All of the above? -

Array It seems like everyone but you is sick of the muslims. -

Array Moslems object to pictures being drawn of Mohammed, which is contrary to their tradition (but not to their religion).
Western countries have traditions, however, of free expression.
So it is unsurprising that Moslems would object to Danish cartoons depicting Mohammed. And it is unsurprising that the Danes would shrug their shoulders, say "we're sorry to hear that," and keep right at it.
Honestly, if you lived your daily life in fear of offending people of a completely different culture halfway around the world, you'd need psychiatric help. It's just as crazy to expect culture A to do things internally so as not to offend culture B on another continent. "What did I tell you about being stupid? You don't get a birthday this year." -

It seems somebody has been skipping out on sensitivity training, besides I thought page 11,456, paragraph 22,435.A.123.g of the EU constitution strictly prohibited such expressions of humor. -

Array I'm gonna have to give this one a big, "Oh well." In my opinion freedom of expression is a higher ideal than not offending someone's sensibilities. This only rates about a 1.4 on my give-a-damn-o-meter. Everybody has to believe in something. I believe I am going to have another beer. -
I'm all for freedom of speech - I think people should be *allowed* to publish such comics. They may be an insensitive a-hole, but it's within their rights. Laws are meant to protect people, not oppress them. It's up to society to accept/condemn acts of stupidity. -

Array No, no, no! You're being insensitive to Muslim cultural perceptions and mores, which is one reason "why they hate us". You are only helping recruit more terrorists, all of you! -

What is happening is that cultures B,C,D and E immigrate to country A and refuse to assimilate into culture A, but expect the same rights and considerations that they would get in countries B,C,D and E. Then accuse culture A of "intolerance". This isn't just in the US of Jesus either.

Array This world would be such a great place without those islamic a holes. There is a muslim woman who goes to my club. She is all bundled up and she wears the fencing uniform over her muslims rags. Her husband sits in the corner watching with his arms crossed. She is not allowed to fence men and she is not allowed to take lesson from male coaches. The woman is buring up under all the layers of clothing she is wearing she even has a veil on under her mask. -

Then so be it.
Have a nice time!

PS: OTOH, I think that it is much more of a risk to do either one of two things:
1. Send soldiers to a muslim country
2. Support Israel in any way.
Denmark does #1 in a small way, and no #2 AFAIK. I would wager a guess that the terrorists have bigger fish to fry. -

I think that the cartoonist has the right to publish such a cartoon.
I also think that the Muslims have the right to be angry about an offensive cartoon. Although they shouldn't expect government action; they should go about the usual routes of boycotting the paper, etc.
It said in the article that Mohammed was portrayed as being a fundamentalist. I think, or at least hope, that this was more the cause of the offense than the simple drawing of Mohammed. -

The usual route seems to be to issue a fatwa. Just ask Salman Rushdie. Or Theo Van Gogh...oh, nevermind. They got him. -

Yes. Unfortunately the more extremists will no doubt declare a jihad on the cartoonist. Idiots come in many flavors.

That was no doubt part of it. Islam forbids religious imagery in general. I'm not sure that a cartoon counts as religious imagery. The Amish include photographs in their forbidden 'graven' images. Of course, their not likely to assassinate those outlanders that don't follow their beliefs. "Since when does being a patriot in America mean shutting your mouth?"
