    Taking My Life Back (Illinois)

Hello, my name is Robert and I'm 20 years old. For the last few years I've been fighting kidney-failure and have finally recieved a (working) kidney transplant. I was on dialysis for 4 years (soph-senior year of high-school and the summer after) and as a result my body sorta atrophied so my budding interest in fencing sorta fizzled out. But now that I'm recovering and doing some physical fitness I'd like to start fencing again!

I have a tiny bit of experience learning basic fundamentals from the Illinois Fencers Club in Mount Prospect (I live in Elmhurst). My intent at the time was to get into Epee as soon as possible . So one thing I need to learn is if I can just start learning Epee? Or is is prudent to start in foil?

Well that's me I suppose. I'll have a lot of other questions but I should probably direct them to the proper forums. I've read the forums and it seems you guys are friendly and helpful . Hope to learn much here.

    -Robert

    Welcome back to fencing!

I would take the advice of the coaches at your club about which weapon to start. We here will all argue the better points of our own weapons ad infinitum

Welcome back to fencing. I just thought I'd mention that the Remenyik is this weekend at Northwestern University in Evanston. It's the strongest tournament of the year for the area, so there should be some pretty good fencing. If you want to see how each weapon is fenced at the higher levels, this would be a good time to check it out. The schedule is up at www.il-usfa.org (the Illinois division website). Might as well put it here as well:

The Remenyik Open, hosted by Northwestern University

    Sat. Oct. 22
    7:45 AM Men's Foil
    12:45 PM Women's Foil
    3:15 PM Women's Sabre

    Sun. Oct. 23
    7:45 AM Men's Epee
    10:45 AM Women's Epee
    12:45 PM Men's Sabre

Sports and Aquatics Center, 2311 Campus Drive, Evanston.
