    Moving

Hey guys, as most of you know I am moving continents at the end of this week. I am trying to cut down on my weight and as such am going to Fed Ex the fencing gear to London. My question is this, what exactly should I take and what should I leave behind? This is what I have.....

    • 3 FIE foils
      2 sets of FIE whites
      1 FIE mask
      2 pairs of Shoes
      2 pairs of socks
      4 body wires
an Uhlmann Rollerbag with attachment bag
      foil and epee weights
      1 epee in pieces
1 epee in sorta working order
1 old guitar shaped soft carry bag
a repair kit including allan keys, screw drivers, tip tape etc.
      a training diary

So what should I pack in the rollerbag and what should I leave for my mother to play with?
Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls!

if i were in your situation this is what id bring
    2 foils
1 set of whites (they weigh a semi-lot and washing the one set more often is probably cheaper then shipping both)
    1 mask (duh)
    1 pair of shoes
2 pair of socks (they are light and can get nasty pretty quick)
3 cords (light and easily fixable) (this way you have your good one, a spare one, and a disaster one)
1 epee if you think you wanna play (i know your mainly a foilist)
    repair kit and diary

leave the weights cuz they are heavy and easy substitution is just to place weapon on floor tip down... foil weighs ~ 500g and epee weighs about 800g you wont need 2 bags

that of course is my humble, never switched continents with my fencing gear, opinion enjoy your time in london BTW

I guess you won't consider buying new gear at LeonPaul or duelist
The truth is out there ........ you just have to find it.

Just a thought, if your "old guitar shaped soft carry bag" packs light and flat (doesn't take up very much space) then you might wnt to consider taking that. If you have to travel through London to train (I assume that you will be training at Pauls/Boston), then a full size wheelie bag on the tube would not be fun...

When are you coming over to the UK?

thanks Boo Boo, I generally use the attachment bag to my wheelie bag for training. Though that usually involves carrying another bag then with clothing etc. I am hoping to train at Boston....though if they want me is another question!

Salle Boston appears to be a nice club (have never been there - I don't live in London - but know plenty of people there). There is a really lovely woman (Vicky) from New Zealand already.

I am sure that Boston will welcome you, you will have a great time :-)

    Zelda,

Most of the folk in Boston are very nice. I have met a few of them at competitions, and they seem very friendly. I'm sure you will have no problem fitting in.

What's your real name? I'll look out for you
    at competitions this year...

Congrats on the move, travel as lightly as possible - that's my advice. Only pack the essentials.

your foils, your repair kit, your mask, 1 set of whites, your wheelie bag, your training book, your socks, a pair of shoes.

Don't bother with the weghts - a lot of people have them anyway.

So... I must've missed something - what are you studying?

And Oor Wullie did you make Britol? I bombed badly (as did my friends), a lack of competition experience methinks (or maybe talent).

OK, this may be a dumb question, but how do you manage to leave your training diary in a supermarket???
Did you pull out quickly to check over your psychology when performing beat disengages before deciding which brand of baked beans to buy???
    Kidding!

    I know, it was dumb.

The (boring) truth is that I had my training diary at work (to update during my lunch hour), was taking it home, put it down at the checkout and forgot to pick it up again.

Was just incredibly relieved that I had decided not to put my plane tickets and passport etc (for an A-grade which I am going to this weekend), picked up that same day, inside my training book. Would have been major disaster to loose those.
