If so, we can exchange therories and such here.

Definitely.

I'm a huge fan of the dramatic pauses, and the 'mysteeeerious' cliffhangers that end every episode!

The best ones recently have been

*SPOILERS*
the 'Others' turning out to just be survivors from the back of the plane
and
Jin's 'English speaking' being part of a dream
*/SPOILERS*

No doubt.

I am digging the Dharma logo showing up everywhere, even on the shark. I like the twist of 'the others' at least for now being the folks from the back of the plane.

I have a feeling the guy Lenny was in the bunker typing the numbers and hitting EXECUTE and in the process went nuts.

I recently watched the first seaon on DVD and was shocked how they were able to tie everyone together and still are with the Hurley and friend looking at the Driveshaft CD. Hurley on TV at the Korean guy's house, Sawyer meeting Jack's dad, those numbers being on the island itself.

Any ideas what the very large thing making all the noise is? Or, what the black cloud is?

Great show and series.

No, the Others are a different bunch. That's why there are so few of the original tail-section survivors left: conflict with the Others. I think.

I think they're one and the same. I'm also betting they're generated by whatever is on the other side of the wall in the bunker.

I think the "black smoke" mentioned by the French lady is probably the same as the 'black smoke' in the security system. Due to the electromagnetic stuff in the bunker, I wouldn't be surprised if the 'security system' has something to do with that, like if it's moved by magnets. (Watch me be completely wrong.) What weirds me out is the polar bears showing up when Walt was recently reading the comics with the polar bear in them. Anyone else catch Hurley reading those comics on the plane? Guess he speaks Spanish...

Yeah, he's Hispanic, despite the name. Last week there was a flashback with his Mom in it. Very Hispanic.

I wonder if whatever is in the bunker will turn out to be an ESP or psychokineses amplifier...

But I'm beginning to doubt that the writers have a multiyear outline for the show. I think they're making it up as they go.

We've only got the first season here so far, so I just skimmed through most of what you guys said

The show isn't bad, the fact that SWEET F*CK ALL ever really happens gets annoying though.

The black guy (forgotten his name) has just started crawling down into the bunker.

Next season isnt here till next year..and the first one finished a few months ago now.

I severely dislike Lost because of this. It smells of the X files i.e. big hints that something big is just around the corner, but it never does. There is only so long that something like that can go on and frankly, I have better things to do with my time. There are far better SF shows to watch.

Also the survivors have to be best looking bunch of plane travellers I've ever seen. The hodge podge of oh so standard cliches is less than interesting (with the sole exception of the the Iraqi).

If they were to rot on the island for the rest of eternity I wouldn't shed a tear.

One question: How the hell did Dominic Moynahan pull her?

That's how I've felt about "Lost" as well. You can almost hear the underlying theme "the truth is out there." The X Files strung people along, week after week, building anticipation about the solution to the mystery. People devoted hours upon hours watching it, waiting for the next clue, trying to figure out what it all meant. And in the end, they ended up being disappointed because the show just sort of fizzled out. It turned out that the truth was . . . a letdown.

Maybe Lost is different, but like Gav says, it sure feels the same as the X Files. That's a lot of time to devote for a show that could have a similar crappy ending.

Gilligan's Island? The Harlem Globetrotters somehow ended up there and played a basketball game against a bunch of robots! Now that's entertainment!

i watch it because i like the show, not because its SF. if you want SF, go buy the star trek dvds and have fun watching those. sure, it drags out and that can be painful sometimes, but the best part of the show for me is speculating on the plot. i've spent a lot of time tossing around theories in a social environment.

have you seen a prime time show anywehre with people who aren't gorgeous by default? i don't really think many of them are cliche. some have cliche elements about them, sure, but i think its more to ground them for the audience.

I'm not going to argue with you. SF isn't all about aliens and spaceships. I might go as far as to term the show a horror serial (if pushed) as it seems to combine more elements of horror than SF. I may also have gone so far as to call it a fantasy serial.

It seems to have a lot in common with Roswell; spooky goings on, "are they; aren't they", good looking cast etc.

I don't watch the show because I don't like it. I don't like it because I think it short changes the audience. I am entitled to my view.

But I'm willing to bet that I will be right. You will never see a particularly satisfying ending to this show. They have opted for the X files style drip drip of plot elements that do not lead the story on. The fantasising of the fans will inevitably lead to disappointment if they do decide to add in a decent story. Strip out the duff character backstories and you have a very lean show. So I think the makers have already damned the show. I knew some pretty hardcore X files fans (I was always interested - it was good telly at the time - but hardly a fan) who were deeply disappointed with the way it ended.

I need to answer this. Wouldn't it have been refereshing to have had a distinctly average bunch of people wash up on the shore? I might have been extremely curious of where this was going as a result.

And you've triggered my OCD - where are your capital letters!

Oh and Star Trek is about as un-SF as you can get. I enjoyed the show (the original one) but it's more soap than science.

Last Night's Episode...

I know the others are not the folks from the back of the plane and a different group, but I understand how what I typed could be misunderstood.

Gav, you don't like the show fine, hit a different thread, there are plenty to choose from.

As for Pip pulling 'her' it's not like it's a big accomplishment.

Anyway, last night's show was good but not great. I guess I was hoping for some sort of confromtation between the others and the folks from the plane.

Curious why Locke is out of the bunker, guess someone else is doing the code and hitting the button. Side note, I wonder how many folks used the Lost numbers for the $340MM lotto.

Guess the next episode will have Sawyer finally getting ill from his wound and maybe they will take him to Jack to help him. If the two groups do come together it will make an interesting dynamic between Jack and the lady in charge of the other group. Although I suspect Jack would not fight it too hard as he never really wanted to be in charge anyway.

Not real happy we have to wait three weeks for the next new episode.

As Mencken said, "No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public".

I tape it and watch it while I work out ( after midnight, when there are only infomercials and Christian broadcasts to be found on broadcast TV ). I watch a lot of so-so programs that way. But I don't find "Lost" that bad, perhaps because I never watched "X Files".

Ironic that the actor who plays Sawyer got robbed at gunpoint last week. I wonder if he'll "draw on that experience" the next time he's on the wrong end of a pistol at work?
