Array Pimp My Case (or: modifying a golf travel case) Last weekend, I was at the VERY crowded Queens OCC in Kingston, Ontario. Space was at a premium such that people were setting up camp in the hallways, lobby, etc.
I then noticed one individual had a very good idea: he/she was using a rigid golf case, with a few bungee cords and bags rivetted into the shell, so it could be used standing up vertically (when open at a right angle).
Obviously, I think most of us have seen or use a golf case ourselves, but this is the first time I had seen one modified so that it could be used like an upright warddrobe. Nylon mesh zippered bags were rivetted on one side for body cords and such, and bungee cords were rivetted on the other side to keep the weapons in place. There was room at the bottom to keep a mask.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the foam. Most cases have cushioning foam in the top end. The foam would be nice for my mask, but it would obviously be easier to keep a mask at the bottom. Suggestions?
Anyway, I think I am going to steal this idea. Does anyone have any other cool ways to pimp my case? "All things must pass. All things must fade away." - George Harrison -

Anyway, I think I am going to steal this idea. Does anyone have any other cool ways to pimp my case? Ground lights, hydraulics and a huge subwoofer. Or, if you want something more practical, you could try building smaller compartments into it for things like tools, cords, or bags of weapon parts. Array You could easily rivet a bungee to the top to suspend the mask by its head restraint (unless you had an LP mask...).
As for pimping ideas... I would suggest 22" spinning rims, small cappucino bar, and a roll-out inflatable mattress for those long tournaments... -

Array El Chucko, if you make a case with even a few of the joke mods on here, i would pay to see it. "If I were ever to challenge you to a duel, your best bet would be battle axes in a very dark basement." Misquoted from The Prisoner

Array Feh..... amateurs....lemme show you how it's done.
Presenting Frankenbag....the winnebago I used when I was competing regularly.
It's a double-sized hard case outfitted to hold all my clothing items (hanging on the lid....the right side) and my weapons and masks (left side)
Most of my stuff is at SwordPlay, but when fully loadedit carried 2 epees (left rack), 2 sabres (middle rack), 4 foils (right rack), the foil and sabre masks went underneath the weapon rack (which swung out to clear the body of the case). I addition, my tools were in one of the bags hanging at the top of hte right side, and my body cords in the other bag.
It was designed for those times (frequent when you fenc all weapons) when you have to move from the foil strips on one side of the venue to the epee one on the other. Instead of stuffingh gear into a bag and hopefully not dropping anything, all I had to do was load, lock, and roll. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...p/AUT_0730.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...p/AUT_0728.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...p/AUT_0727.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...p/AUT_0729.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...sop/labels.jpg
The labels on the bag are (mostly) bouts that I either saw or were a part of that inspored me (usually the come-from-behind kind) -

Array If my daughter were to see this, my husband would have to build her one for Christmas. Wow, this case is amazing... All that missing is a shower and juice bar. -

But does anyone remember the handmade octagon wooden case someones dad made him for last christmas? That was beautiful (although not practical taking to comps.)! I can't remember who it was or bother to search for the thread (sorry!) but if I did I would have provided a link to that thread. -

Array Wow, that's pretty sweet. Heh, I just use a duffel bag for my clothes and PVC pipe "ninja" sheathes for my weapons. I get a couple of funny looks when taking the bus, but otherwise it works for me. -

Array PF - Sweet. Freakin' sweet.
Sean - I may take you up on that. I do work at an inner city high school... I'm sure some of my kids could, um, "acquire" some dubs or ground effects for me. They spinnin'! "All things must pass. All things must fade away." - George Harrison -

I've been carrying around my french grip in a ninja sheathe for a year and aside from a few "Hey, cool samurai sword" comments it didn't get much notice. But once I started carrying an italian grip, it's been getting a lot more attention. Particularly from the ladies. One thing bugs me though. I'm carrying a nearly straight bladed fencing sword strapped to my back. How can they confuse that with a samurai sword? -

Array I am going out RIGHT NOW to get myself a hardshell golf bag to modify! But, to really pimp it out, you MUST have pink zebra-striped fur interior.....Oh and a big matching hat with a feather! I'm a lumberjack and I'm O.K. I sleep all night and I work all day. -

darius We already discussed that. 22' spinners, along with the ground effects, sub, cappuchino bar, waterbed, gigantic sub, maybe some mood lighting, and some new headers. Array If you're going to build an obscenely large pimped out case, the following are necessities:
1) Fold out dummy arm for those long waits
2) Mini-dvd player and lcd so you can watch and rewatch your favorite bouts 24/7.
3) Build-in scoring machine/weapons tester.
4) Gatorade or other sports drink dispenser on tap.
On the bright side, if you ever get kicked out of your house/aparment, at least you'll have a backup place to say. "Since when does being a patriot in America mean shutting your mouth?"

Array You know, I could rig up a gatorade dispensor and cup holder in there if you want, chuck. Some low power TEC units could keep it cool, and you could get a few farads of capacitance to power it, and use a standard converter from radio shack to charge the whole thing.
