Yes, I must confess I have a wristband, it's black with a red star for communism on it. I hid it very very carefully. Jack, the wristbands we're talking about are those punk-looking ones you'd find at hot topic. They're made out of the same material as sweatbands. That "fence strong" bracelet sounds awesome. Where can you get it?

I have a cheap $5 faux leather trenchcoat and it's lasted me for three years now. I've got that and a huge Russian fur trenchcoat marked down from $200 to $20 (hey, never totally pass up Goodwill!). It had only been worn once. Of course, it doesn't really work very well down here in TN, because it doesn't get that cold like up north. So, I'm walking around looking like a dork with this huge chinchilla wrap! Yeah, it was mostly his appearance that threw them off. Unfortunately for him, his personality completely clashes with his appearance. Also, for some reason, my mom was getting really bothered by the fact that his bangs would fall into his face and she couldn't "read him". That was the main point of conflict.

There's the problem. Once again, the 80's (and early 90's) are over. It's time for him to get a haircut. If James Hetfield and Eddie Vedder and Tony Hawk can get haircuts, so should he. I don't know how long you have been in Japan but back in the early to mid 90's there was a black boy friend craze over there that lasted for a few years. Kind of like whats going on now in Sweden now.
You bet we are. I have a Nigerian friend who went to Sweden last year and he hasn't come back. He said that the moment he stepped off the plane he didn't need to spend another penny. Some tall beautiful blonde approached him at the luggage pick up and invited him back to her house for lunch. After lunch she asked him to take a shower and as he was doing so she unpacked all his stuff.
He has been living with her since but he says that Swedish women are constantly trying to hit on him wherever he goes, even when he is with his woman.
Well, there is a small but frequently written about segment of the Swedish middle-age women cohort that likes to go to Gambia in Western Africa. There, they get picked up by young Gambian guys (teenagers/20sometings), and those oldies pay for company and more during the 1-2 weeklong visit.
Also, if you look at Swedish couples (or previous couples!) where one partner is of African descent and the other is Swedish, you will notice that the African descent partner almost always is the man. Examples: Parents of Martin Dahlin, Henrik Larsson, etc, etc. The only counterexamples that I can think of now are Svenne&Lotta and Cyndee Peters and her late partner.
Also, if one looks at people who don´t make the papers that pattern persists. I have seen far more couples african man/Swedish woman than the other way around. No idea why it is so, though.

Peter, I too have heard of this Gambian thing. It's sort of a female equivalence of men going to Thailand or some other place. It's sex tourism.
However, RL was talking about 'a black boyfriend craze' going on here. Not quite the same matter, and something he just made up. Oh, and if there ever was any 'black boyfriend craze' here, then considering Martin Dahlin and Henrik Larssons ages it was weeell over 30 years ago!

just had a discussion with my parents about this subject.
in ch black men are quite liked. I don't know why since after 3 - 4 years they get divorced, but the other part has what he wants - residency! So he brings over his entire family, often lives off the financial support of his previous wife - since mostly he didn't persue a profession and she does, so according to law, he gets support from her. Plus the necessary social support he has the right to collect. In other words, he lives modest but well without having to do anything and without really supporting the economical system.
I don't consider this as a healthy development.
I wouldn't call this a craze though - I call it stupid!
Dilznik - It was a costume piece I had to buy for a school video. We were doing a film for my psychology class on suicide, so I had to dress up like a renegade. But no, I'm not communist. On another note, personally I prefer long-haired guys. Clean-shaven, but long-hair nonetheless. Unfortunately, there are way too many guys out there that can't get away with it.
