Array Fundamentalism What flavor concerns you more, and why? -

Array Islamic. The Christian fundamentalists are dangerous threats to freedom, but the Islamic ones don't mind killing, and frequently do. "In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, theory and practice are different." -

Array Christian fundamentalists are the greatest threat to the country. They think that it is their way or the highway and often try to limit the freedom of others. Also, they have been know to kill abortion doctors, bomb clinics, and bomb federal buildings because they think that god calls them to do so. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at him and says, "I'm sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger." -

Array Philosophy as Treat
It's interesting that philosophy's or religion, have become threatening, whereas before, they answered or tried to answer the questions that people had about the universe.
I think it's not so much the religion itself, but the way we interpret religion. Maybe we should not try to interpret religion, but just read our books quietly at home, or with others of the same faith.
I used to practice Christianity, but I was Shakubuku'd [or introduced] to Nichiren Shoshu in 1981 and have never stopped practicing. The Lotus Sutra talks about "Peaceful Practices" and that people who practice will become "Gentle and upright", it doesn't mean that you won't be able to fence; it just means that our demeanor will become more better. Also that you will be "loved by all" .
I am only responding to this thread, because 25 minutes ago, a small group of dissidents attacks another small group in Russia, the area is in the Caucasian Mountains; where white people and asian people once blended together.
It would be great if we could get this thing back again, and I fully support to the people who are struggling and suffering while trying to protect themselves from people who hide behind religions in order to promote their agenda!!! I support Russia 100%, those people did not do one thing to anyone......To Russia with Love! -

Array Currently Christians are the majority in the U.S. They frequently attempt to set policy as well as constantly attack the Constitution in attempts to change it to reflect their limited and short-sighted views and beliefs.
I'm not a fan of the Islamic dogma either, but right now, the Christian extremists are the most dangerous to everything that we hold dear in America.
For the record, I am a member of a church and attend services regularly. "Since when does being a patriot in America mean shutting your mouth?"

Array I think the consensus will be "wacko fundamentalists suck", regardless of type "In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, theory and practice are different." -

Didn't Christianity preach Love Thy Neighbor?
It's funny, I was gonna start a thread, but this says it all...
As someone who was raised Christian (before I became the godless heathen I am today), am I the only one who remembers what Jesus preached? Things like Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth, and turn the other cheek.
Am I the only one who saw that Jesus was a homeless guy who wandered the land helping the sick, poor, and social outcasts? That he preached helping those in need, and not prizing material possessions? In fact, he said to follow him one should give everything away...
In another thread, someone had said that republicans prize indviduality, and that you either make it or don't on your own. Yet this is the same party that claims to be religious and moral.
While the Godless democrats believe in hand outs and helping the sick, poor, and social outcasts?
It's sad how organized religions, which preach peace and love, get manipulated and abused by those in power so that they can control the faithful. So sad... We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody but we do as we please
When the weather's fine,
We go fishin' or go swimmin' in the sea
We're always happy
Life's for livin', yeah, that's our philosophy -

Array I'm more concered with the so called Christian Fundamentalists. Probably because they're the ones that got Bush voted into office. Islamic extremists don't have much legitimacy, unlike their christian counter-parts, though both can be just as damaging. -

It's sad how organized religions, which preach peace and love, get manipulated and abused by those in power so that they can control the faithful. So sad... Shhh... you're thinking too logically, they might hear you. You're supposed to discard your interpretation of the Bible and follow theirs...
That's because they are hypocrits. Flat and simple, they follow the path to self-righteousnous. They seek to mold God in their image and viciously attack anyone who would dare disagree with their limited interpretation of the scriptures. They cherry-pick the passages that support their ridiculous view, turn words and phrases into propoganda that destroys its original intent. Just like the jihadist of Islam, the Evangelical right has hijacked a religion to enforce its world-view and to edify their political and financial agenda.
Take their stance on the new drug being developed by Merckx as a vaccination for cervical cancer. It has a chance to significantly reduce the incidence and therefore death from cervical cancer in women (currently 230,000 die each year worldwide). It's clinical test show that it is 100% effective if given to girls before the age of 11. Guess why the Christian Right is objecting against its potential use? The Holier-than-thou, many of whom are no doubt part of the misnomered 'Pro-life', are having a hissy fit because it may encourage women to have sex since one of the negative consequences of sex can be removed!
Maher of the 'Family Research Council' one of the Rightist Christian Orgs:
"Giving the HPV vaccine to young women could be potentially harmful, because they may see it as a licence to engage in premarital sex,"
As opposed to letting them die horrible, premature deaths from an HPV infection.
They are a group of hateful, spiteful, self-loathers who are only concerned about forcing the rest of the world into the small-minded mold of their own ignorance and contempt. Their self-righteous activism is destructive as they rabidly pursue their agenda to roll back advances made in women's health. Their thoughtless self-promotion stands to reverse the steady decrease in the number of teenage pregnancies and abortions that occur here in America (these numbers have been on a steady decline for decades).
Why does the Right hate women so much? "Since when does being a patriot in America mean shutting your mouth?"

Let's see: one groups blows up car bombs anywhere people congregate, the other group ( gasp ) votes! Egad! Obviously, the second group is worse!
Possibly you have your priorities a bit mixed up? -

Possibly you have your priorities a bit mixed up? Nah. I'm just saying, one group decides to disrupt our way of life by using bombs and other such acts of terrorism, and another does the same from within our government. I'm more worried about the one within, because if they screw up even further, we'll end up with less freedoms and less security. -

The lesser evil to me is the meddling. At least for the nonce. -

Array Interesting poll - for many reasons. The correct answer is all of the above.
There are other types of fundamentalists out there; in one form or another they all pose a threat. Similar Threads -
