Array Bending the tang without a vise Alright, so I don't have the means for a vise here at my small apartment. Yet I want to bend the tang of a new Vniti blade I just got. Is there any other way to safely bend the tang? Maybe with some pliers? With a Vise Grip and a Monkey wrench?? I'm going to try this later on, but I figured I'd ask you guys for advice.
Thanks -

Thanks Get a largish closed-end (box) wrench....the larger the better (better legerage), but not so large that you can't get a grip on it.
The head of a closed wrench is angled slightly. Slip the closed end over teh tangdown to the shoulder of the blade. Position it so the wrench is actually in contact with the blade at tghe shoulder ('cause that's where you want the bend to be), and so that the bend in the wrench is toward the blade.
Then you simply squeeze the blade and wrench together...the tang should bend...but be advised that an FUE blade is harder to bend than a standard carbon-steel one. -

This trick also works well if you have any other long-handled tool (e.g. an adjustable wrench) that has a hole at the end of the handle to hang on a nail, etc. Technique is exactly the same. I have a vice in the garage, but a wrench is easier than going down there and maneuvering around the cars and other junk to get to the workbench. Frank Pratt

Array I've used a pipe wrench before... worked OK. I'm not sure if a monkey wrench and pipewrench are the same... Just clamp the tang with the pipe wrench (they should be at approx. 90 degree), place the blade as flat as you can get it on the floor, and bend with the wrench handle. Lemme know if this is clear or not... -

Array 1/2'' piece of pipe about 2 feet LONG works as well slide it overthe tang and pull Tim Loomis
